View Full Version : combining amitriptyline+mirt
hi im currently taking 15mg mirtizapine, i dont really agree with the drug atall at any dose however, i wana introduce amitriptyline now and slowly withdraw the mirtizapine.
what do you guys think about this and any idea on doing it?
thanks
You don't say why you don't agree with the Mirtazapine.
I take Mirtazapine and Amitriptyline and find it a very good combination, infact the only one I have been able to tolerate, I can't take SSRI's they make me hallucinate and heightened anxiety.
PM me if you want any info?
Hi, i find that since being on the mirtizapine i seem to feel weirdly flat. This only really lasts untill about 12am the next day, its kinda weird like theres no colour in the sky. very very hard to explain, but i used to take amitriptyline last year at 25mg. Ive never had any problems before with depression and anxiety and only took them for tension headaches but i seemed to develop this issue when i was put on mirtizapine. Its a very mild depression, ive seen bad depression just i feel like im in a fog alot of the time.
Funny enough the mirtizapine completly took away my headaches but i just dont feel very good throughout the day and i noticed this ever since i started them, i never really noticed until now.
I did just cold turkey smoking around about two months ago, i seemed to of felt depressed since i quit to be honest so im not sure if its just this and it will go?
i felt great on amitriptyline, minor side effects like faster heartbeat and dry mouth but i loved it.
i like your name by the way, funny enough i have a golden retriever whos called bobby :D

I don't think you can get seratonin syndrom from combining a Tetracyclic(Mirtazapine) with a Tricyclic(Amitriptyline), I think there has to be an SSRI combination. My doctor will not prescribe Citalopram/Prozac with Mirtazapine.
I take Mirtazapine 45mg and Amitriptyline 50mg, I was given the Amitriptyline as an add on because I was in a constant state of agitation/panic and obsessive thoughts.
Boobby is my Spaniel, I have a Greyhound called Poppy and a Cockapoo, Dottie.:bighug1:
ah brilliant. I was only planning to use 15mg mirt and 10mg amitriptyline, do you find the amitriptyline helps and what with?. I just think that the mirtizapine has made me quite anxious and i never felt that way on amitriptyline, if anything it took away alot of anxiety?
thanks alot for your reply your dog looks lovely if i presume thats the one in your picture :)

Not sure why your doctor will not prescribe them together. I have been on Prozac and Mirt for 6 months now and it has been working great for me.
I have done a bit of research and from what I could see from the web the combination of an SSRI and Mirt is thought to be highly effective.
