Hi to everyone. My name is Laura (Southern_Belle) and I live in the southern part of the USA. I have suffered with anxiety and OCD for as long as I can remember. I can worry about worrying! :blush: My OCD makes itself known by me wanting everything clean and neat. My Mom swears that when I was a baby in a highchair a drop of food fell on the tray and I refused to eat until she wiped it up. So like I said, I've had this forever. I do feel that when I would clean the house over and over I was trying to "clean" my anxiety away, which of course, never worked.
I always felt different in my family with three other sibilings. I was the oldest, yet when my sister (who is 1 yr younger than me) grew taller than I was, she took over as the leader. I was quite happy for her to do so because I was scared of everything. It has never stopped. I'm still scared of everything but now try to fight it, and she is still the boss, lol.
When did I finally get help? I overheard one of my boys whisper to a friend "Don't walk on the carpet, my Mom just vacumned and she doesn't like footprints on it!" Imagine my distress.:ohmy: My poor 7 yr old felt like he could not walk on our carpet. I tried to get help and got somewhat better. I then relapsed when I was having my 13 yr old picked up from school in a daycare bus with teddy bears painted on it because I was too scared for him to stay at home for 2 hours until I got home from work. He was humiliated and all I did was worry. Finally I got some real help.
Now, thanks to a variety of things, NMP being one them I am doing so much better. Both of my boys and my husband are so thankful! I am honored to be an Admin., and will do everything possible to see that NMP continues to be the informative, caring and supportive site that it was when I came onboard.
I do hope that in my own way I can help anyone that ever needs it, be it advice, to listen or just a hug.
