View Full Version : cant get into chat room for weeks
Im wondering if anyone can help i havnt been able to get in to chat room for weeks. Id been having problems for a while and thanks to Nicola's help i got in but it was short lived lol the problem at the time was i had pop ups blocked they are no longer blocked and havnt been since that day but i still cant get in. I get as far as loading image and its like it freezes. I have changed for IE to Firefox in the last few days so i no it isnt because of this as i had the problem long before i changed ummmm im trying to think what info u wud need to help i use xp i have all current java updates. Anyone have any ideas wud be appreciated if not no worries Name :hugs:
Turn off your XP firewall as a test.
Hi Ross
Yip i turned off firewall but it made no difference still doing the same thing but thank u for the suggestion :)
In Firefox.
Goto.
Tools > Options > Content.
There you will see a list of check boxes. The top one should say "Block Pop-Up Windows".
To the right of that, there will be an exceptions button. Click this. Add in there the NMP website address. www.nomorepanic.co.uk
Whilst in that window, check that Java is enabled.
Thank you Ross will try this when my partner gets bk as computers are a foreign language to me and it sounds a wee bit complicated lol so ill give it a go and let u no thanks
Enable java and Enable java script are in this window and both are turned on ummmm the address for here is there and marked allow do u no if the pop up blocker sud me marked or left empty its marked but i unmarked it and then tryed to get in but still the same thing ?:)thanks for the help Ross
Okie Dokie.
Can you provide me with information of what Anti-Virus, Anti-SpyWare and Anti- MalWare applications you are using please.

Sorry boss  :sofa:
Glad we got that straight.
And yeah, something must have changed. But it may take a while to get to the bottom of it.
Could be Hardware Firewall (a Firewall in the Router), could be Software (anti-virus etc).
Just a case of trial and error.

I guess you need to turn firewall off to test?
I guess you need to turn firewall off to test?
Ideally, yes.... its easier to turn it of for a few moments to try it, but with a Hardware Firewall it differs for every model of Router/Modem.
If it works with the Hardware Firewall off, then an exception can be added to permit NMP to pass through.
Nowadays, all this new fangle hardware updates itself regularly to keep on top of new threats.... it is possible the Router has received an update since being able to access chat which is now blocking it.
Again, its just trial and error. Thats the beauty of Tech Help..... you quite often see similar problems arise, but there are millions of combinations of potential causes. Beautiful when you crack the nut with the first blow though! Keeps you wanting more.

I am glad u are here Ross cos I am lost lol and Alex is too busy to help. Cheers mate.
Dont mention it. It is my pleasure.
I owe you pretty much my life Nic, and I'm not just saying that. This site (your creation, your baby) has more than assisted in my total recovery. I can never repay you for that!
Hey Ross i think what ur looking for is AVG ummm this like i said earlier is foreign language to me lol i rely heavly on my partner when it comes to the comp lol so hope this gives u a better idea Nicola lol u cudnt be as bad as me no way lol but thank u both for trying to help The last nite i was able to get in but the following morning it was same as before dont no what happened there is no chance anyone was at the laptop to interfer with settings or anything like that so eh lol Name xx:hugs:
I'd bet my bottom dollar on AVG being the culprit.
Also, you were able to access chat for a night, then the next morning you couldn't. I take it you turned your computer off in the interim..... AVG would have probably forgotten a setting you added to it, or just disregarded it.
Disable that shizzle, and you'll be chatting in no time.
I think i posted my reply somewhere ooops well my knowledge of comps speaks for itself lol AVG Ross is the only thing i have on the comp i had avast but i changed a few days ago but as i say iv had this problem since i spoke to Nicola she was great and it worked that nite but the followning morn it was the same again and has been ever since thanks again for the help :hugs:
