Choline for anxiety - help required
Hi all, I have been reading more about inositol as a treatment for anxiety, depression and OCD, and found that some people are being advised to take choline alongside inositol.
Apparently choline can be very effective at treating anxiety (although it is not effective against depression).
Has anyone ever tried choline? Was it effective? What were the side effects? Please help, cos choline sounds like it might be a useful weapon in the war against anxiety.
Re: Choline for anxiety - help required
I've not tried it yet but have read up on it and found that a lot of the time in comes in a tablet combined with Inositol
Re: Choline for anxiety - help required
I can't find anything about it, other than one medical trial which showed choline had a noticeable impact against anxiety, but seems to have no benefit against depression.
Choline seems to be neglected in the world of medical research despite suspected benefits for sufferers of anxiety. I can't find any contraindications for it so I don't know if it is SSRI-safe.
Re: Choline for anxiety - help required
Found something today using Holland & Barretts database - there was no mention of it being used to treat anxiety and depression, and it seems that large doses of choline (9g or more) can actually cause or worsen feelings of depression.
Very few people actually need choline supplements. In fact, when medical researchers were trying to find out what effect choline supplements have on human biology, they had to induce choline deficiency in the patients!
So it looks like I will be giving choline a miss! I'm off to update the citalopram survival guide!
