Are allergies causing your throat problems?
I had been suffering with globus symptoms for nearly a year, when a friend mentioned that she found soya caused her throat to swell. Last year I decided to cut down on my dairy intake and replaced it with soya, milks and yoghurts mainly, which is when this globus started. So I cut out the soya, and my throat lump has almost gone! :) I still have some sensations in my throat, but I think that is due to other problems, I suffer with bruxism, (teeth grinding), which causes me to carry a lot of tension round my jaw and neck area, plus I think I have spent so much time concentrating on my throat it has become a hard habbit to break! It is nothing like it was though.
I was googling food allergies/intollerance, and it seems that one of the symptoms can be tightness in the throat and a lump sensation. Common allergens include wheat, gluten, dairy, soya, I even read about a man who was allergic to tap water!
It may not be the cause for everyone, but it may be an avenue to investigate. Unfortunately, food intollerances are a tricky business to identify and usually includes keeping a food diary and trying elimination diets, or else visiting a specialist that can test you, at a cost of course. Mine was simple as it was easy to cut out something I had only started having a year ago, although I do miss the soya milk, I dont miss it as much as the lump!!
If anyone does discover a link between food and their throat problems, please do share your experiences / successes.
Take care.
Re: Are allergies causing your throat problems?
I certainly believe that my throat problems are caused by some sort of allergy, i have had probs on and off for almost two years now, i am seriously thinking of getting allergy tested to see if this is the cause.

Allergies, hayfever, dustmites, etc
I hope that you are able to find some relief. i have allergies also, they are an immune-over response. I am not a doctor, but i found something very helpful. http://bioprin.posterous.com/tag/atmen

Hi Alwaysill!
I posted a quick version of my story last night under intros. A forum friend has directed me here. I'm desperately searching for answers.
When my son was 3 he stopped eating saying "it won't go down"? We spent the next 5 years in & out of out of town hospitals. He'd stop eating for 9 months each year? He couldn't swallow his own spit, we had spit pails everywhere! He would drink ensure when able...when he couldn't he'd be on i.v.s in hospital? They did many, many scopes in which his throat would hemmorage each time? Still, no answers from doctors? A specialist told us he'd never seen this before & our son had him "puzzled". Scary!
In the first few years we wasted thousands upon thousands of dollars to quacks claiming they could help, to no avail! That is until we tried our last alternative route! After years of "hell" we were directed to The Steel Health Centre where we met Larry Steel. He saved my sons life as far as I'm concerned!
At this point Bryan hadn't eaten in 5 months & had just been released from hospital & 2 scopes within a week apart! Larry's belief is that your body can heal itself? His non evasive treatment & assessment that very first day had my son EATING within 5 minutes after! Wow!!!???
Larry worked on Bryan for about 2 years. He insisted it was allergies? I asked what Bry was allergic to, & Larry said it doesn't matter I'll fix it! Wow!
At first Bryan saw Larry every other day having 4 or 5 treatments each day. The treatments take 5 or 10 minutes then you process for an hour & go back. Gradually he got down to 2 days a week, then one, then DONE!!! My Bryan was all better!
Bryan is now 16. It's been 8 years since we've needed Larry. Two weeks ago, Bry tells me it's hard to swallow again? It's back! I let him talk me into taking him to a clinic, where they gave him nasal spray & reactin? Please!
The Steel Health Centre has moved about 3 1/2 hours away from us now. I've called Larry & made arrangements to stay for March break.
As a fluke I happened to tell my doctor last night about Bryan's "condition". He's never met Bryan. He immediately came out with Globus Hystericus! It makes sense, for the first time ever! Could it be?
The way Bryan describes everything sounds exactly like it!?
Any info you can provide us with would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my long post!
All the best to you!

Re: Are allergies causing your throat problems?
I have had the problem of Sore Throat for quite some time now. I joined this site to determine if i can find some insights into this illness. Though i have visited several docs several times, but the response has generally been the same that the my throat is actually a bit sensitive.. This sounds a mystery. If it is sensitive, then what are the Do n Don'ts ?? I am here to gauge these things... and to see that whether there is any way to make my throat a more "in-sensitive" :).. Can any one please help me to determine the above??
