I ate about 3mm of the end of a plastic fork and now im super anxious, shaking and scared.
I called NHS Direct and they said it should be fine but keep an eye on it over the next few days but that didnt help, im still really panicky :weep:

3mm? you should be fine :)
Kids swallow things ALL the time, mostly it's just a game of waiting it out until it passes through.
It's way to small to do any damage. Plus the nurse said it should be ok.
I guess you could always ask your doctor if you still were worried.
I'm sorry I know it's an anxiety forum but people on here are afraid of having MS or ALS and you are talking about swallowing a 3mm part of a fork? seriously...
Dont worry it will be perfectly fine.
My then 2 yr old son did - infact he bit into a plastic spoon whilst eating icecream and we only recovered a few pieces from his mouth. He was most upset as he wanted to continue eating ice-cream. He was and is fine and must have a few plastic bits floating around inside lol
Don't worry it can't perforate anything, think of pieces of nuts that you eat they are bigger than that and very sharp. Because of your ha you will panic at anything that could potentially affect your health. I once bit into a black banana without looking and was worried it would make me ill and I posted on here and I got some lovely replies telling me I would be okay and of course I was , I realised it was okay but just needed the reassurance of someone telling me that and not making fun of me.
We're not here to judge, we're here to support. It's not fair to rate one person's anxiety over another, everybody's fears are equal because they are precisely that, fears! Like JaneC says those worrying about those illnesses do not actually have them, so it's no different to seeking reassurance about a bit of plastic!
I hope in future you put a little more thought into what you are saying before you write, and think about the impact of what you have written could have on the OP.
I swallowed my tongue stud once...I still beep going through the metal detector in the airport......
way unfair andy if i'm honest...you wouldn't expect anyone to make fun of your posted fears...extremely insensitive! :(
on the other hand, don't worry about the fork you swallowed...it'll just pass through and you won't even notice a thing :) cannot harm you at all...try to relax, as hard as it may be
big hugs

They may not have MS or ALS but obviously they have symptoms that is pointing them in that direction, I'm sorry but there is support and there is babying, I think worrying about dying with a ventilator in, in complete paralysis and worrying about a tiny bit of plastic you accidentally swallowed is a bit different yeah? There's anxiety then there is just complete stupiditiy, if you went to hospital for that you'd be asked to leave premesis, I'm sure there's a lot of sick people here who would love to worry about something so minor,
i'm not going to dignify that response with an answer andrew....absolutely insensitive...keep your thoughts and opinions to yourself please, don't upset others :(
Not really insensitive the only thing insensitive here is someone posting that they swallowed a 3mm bit of plastic and are worried it's going to kill them, when people in here have real/semi real illnessess, so keep your thoughts and opinions to yourself, no one asked you to reply to my comment.
Whats real to one isnt real to another Andreww .Fearing you could perforate your Bowel is completely understandable .Some could say your fears are completely irrational too .So please stop being so rude and defensive to other members .It wont get you anywhere but the naughty corner ..Sue
No but I'm telling you swallowing a bit of plastic from a plastic fork is clearly not going to do you harm. like seriously PLASTIC. there's a bit of common sense to be used on this forum, too many people babying, the next it will be BLOOD CLOT FROM BANGING MY BABY TOE ON THE DOOR.
I could tell you Your fears are completely unfounded and you sound ridiculous .But I dont ..Think on eh ?
You could, but considering mine have actually been taken seriously by a doctor, you'd be foolish ;)
Your missing the point Andreww ...:lac:
Sue is upset with you now!!!!! You're going to get it lol!!!!!
Andrew - maybe you would be better on a website/forum that specialised in your problems as they know what they are talking about and we clearly don't.
A previous member on here called Eggy was on a lot of them so I can dig some out if you want?

Well, they'd orginally taken my problems seriously, and booked me in for a physical, and in their opinion was given the all clear, reflexes normal, also had an eye test and it was fine, this isnt about my problems, I just think it's quite disrespectful that someone has posted saying about swallowing a 3mm bit of plastic, when I was reading last night someone who the doctor suspects has lung cancer? maybe i'm wrong, but I don't think so
It is not disrepectful at all Andy. Piers has these worries and you are saying that he can't post because it isn't serious enough in your eyes.
I think you are missing the point of No More Panic in that case.
Nicola, I think you guys do an awesome job on this forum and when I get paid i'll happily donate, I think it's such a help for alot of people
but there's a line and I think it's been crossed as opposed to taking the froum seriously, if he really has the worries about the plastic fork, then he needs to be seeing a psychiatrist and I'm being serious, maybe he is? I'm not sure
I'd hate to see someone taking the mick out of the forum and the people on it.
Don't you think some people would say the same about your fears though? To some people thinking you have MND or ALS is totally irrational and you would need psychiatric help too :whistles:
We get plenty taking the mick out of the forum but Piers is not one of them and I suspect you don't really know anything about him or his problems.
I look forward to the donation - thank you :)
Must admit Andrew i think you're being an utter dick, Anxiety isnt something people wish to have... Recently i've had trrational fears about being poisoned by the food i eat, i realise it is an irrational thought but to me the anxiety is still very real. What does it matter it you swallow 3mm of plastic or if you're worried you have a terminal illness we're all supposed to be here to support each other. If you can't see that or you are so selfish that you would wish to belittle someone for their fears rather than offer them a kind word of support then may i suggest that YOU are the one in need of a Psychiatrist/Psychologist to discuss your personality! Grow up and have a bit of respect.
Rant over
I think I might start a thread about swallowing things.....lol...
I know an old woman who swallowed a Horse ..Shes dead of course ....:roflmao: Sue x
I have to say I think your also being insensitive about this. If we told real life sufferers of our fears they would say the same thing your saying but you wouldnt like it. You would argue the fact that you have health anx and some symptoms and would be p****d that they wouldnt sympathise with you.
Our experiences and fears are subjective so please dont judge on something you may not have experienced x x x
Wasn't it a fly Sue?
