alcohol
I'm curious about alcohol and anti-depressents mixing.
I'm not a drinker at all, but, say, if, on a special occasion, I had a glass of wine. Would that be a terrible thing? My doctor told me it's fine to have an occasional glass of wine, or cocktail, as long as that's all it is - but in your experience - what do you think?

Hi,
my experience is that anything in moderation is ok, just dont go overboard!
I have been on my meds for 5 years as a result of panic/ anxiety and long term depression. I asked my Dr a similar question because I felt that I had an exclusion zone round me that was enforced by meds.
I now allow myself a couple of beers or a couple of glasses of wine and really enjoy myself with no side effects what so ever!
Enjoy yourself, & have a happy Christmas :)

Afternoon Halfway,
Morning all,
I'm on 40mg of Citalopram a day and enjoy a couple of glasses ;) of white wine every lunchtime and maybe another couple in the evening. ;);)
I never have a hangover and sleep well (I reckon I'm one of the lucky ones on Citalopram who do?) [^]
An added benefit I've found is that going to the pub at lunchtime for an hour gets me away from my desk and into social situations. I chat to a group of pensioners about their wartime experiences, grandkids, football, photography, politics - generally we put the world to rights!
I don't think I'd have managed to get this far into the Autumn without a combination of Citalopram, Chardonnay and Cameraderie!:D:D:D
Happiness and light to you all,

I saw her once, one little while, and then no more:
’Twas Eden’s light on Earth a while, and then no more.
Amid the throng she passed along the meadow-floor:
Spring seemed to smile on Earth awhile, and then no more;
But whence she came, which way she went, what garb she wore
I noted not; I gazed a while, and then no more!

I asked my Dr about this when I visited this week.
I am on the Citalopram and she reckons 2 glasses of wine won't do any harm but it does mean the pills may not be as effective.

I wouldn't drink at all on anti-d's. Drink in itself is a depressant, so it is kind of defeating the purpose. No?

Hi,
in my experience, I am on 30mg Citalopram and I can't have more than one glass of wine or one beer without feeling really drunk. Not so much immediately, but I waken through the night feeling as though I have had a really heavy drinking session then I am hungover feeling next day.
However, I used to be on Prozac (fluoxetine) and I used to drink wine with no problems at all. Yet my friend has major problems with anxiety the following day and she is on prozac.
I think everyone reacts differently, your experience will be unique to you. I don't imagine an odd glass will do you any harm but you are your own judge of how you feel.
