Nervous about MRI Scan Tomorrow
Hi guys,
I know that MRI scans are safe but I have heard that in some people they can cause dangerous overheating. Feeling hot and burning skin is one of my anxiety symptoms which is why this makes me nervous.
If you have had an MRI scan can you let me know if you experienced heating o if it passed off without incident?

Re: Nervous about MRI Scan Tomorrow
Hi, I had an MRI scan as the doctors thought I had MS before I was diagnosed with panic attacks.
It seems scary but there is no heat, its a loud noise and you have to stay very still but it wasn't anything to worry about.
Re: Nervous about MRI Scan Tomorrow
Hi SB,
Have had many MRIs over the years and may have another one soon, due to headaches.
They are not the best if you don't like confined spaces, but they are painless and I have never had any adverse effect from them. The ones I have used are always air-conditioned, a lovely cool breeze.
Now not many people know this but if you are very anxious ask to take someone a friend etc into the scan room with you, there is no radiation so they normally allow it, they just have to remove all metal objects. It can make it far less stressful.
Take a cool bottle water with you, so you can take a swig when you have finished.
The scan is normally pretty quick, although a bit noisy. You are given a push button if you need to come out, and they talk you through the whole thing, telling you how much longer you have.
You will be fine,
Peter

Just want to add - if you have to press the button to come out TRY to wait for the 'quiet bit' that means that picture has been taken - Each noise is a picture. I took NMP teddy in with me:blush:
No heat - just noise like the end cycle of your washing machine:yesyes: you are given ear plugs:)
Best wishes
june

Re: Nervous about MRI Scan Tomorrow
i had one - no heat and it wasn't scary at all! It was even open at the top so no feeling of being shut in. My husband came in with me and held my hand. Good luck! :)
