In my opinion, RE4 was the game that began the needlessly stupid plot aspects to the series. You spend the whole game just shooting and looting. You can even destroy boxes or barrels to find a lot of ammo and other items like gold, which goes towards purchasing guns from a merchant. Yet another thing I find to be vastly unrealistic in a survival horror series. A guy having a stall in places without any means to get it there.

In older RE games, you actually had to put in the effort to acquire weapons. Hell, I recall you could be flattened by a moving ceiling if you went into a certain room, but forgot to replace the real shotgun with a broken one.

Making RE have too much action just ruined the atmosphere, and every main hero is too tough now. So the franchise is kind of silly nowadays.
