    medication for dizziness?!?!?!

    Hi

Ive been taking sertraline for the past 6 weeks and I think my dizziness is increasing.

My GP said that this is a small price to pay for feeling slightly better in myself.

I wondered, is there any medication I can take to stop the dizziness?

Also, can prozac cause dizziness aswell?

    Thanks - Liz xx

PS I have been suffering with a stomach bug the last few days - could feeling a bit rotten increase my anxiety?

    Hi Lizzie,

I was keeping an eye on your post to see if anyone would reply with an answer... So, I can't help there as I'm searching for that answer too!

I don't take any meds but have dizziness and really want to know how to get rid of it too...

I can say though that if you're unwell with a stomach bug, this would certainly be a reason for your anxiety to increase...I hope that you're feeling better from that now.

    Take care,

    Sam x

    Re: medication for dizziness?!?!?!

    Hi there
I have had massive problems with dizziness once 10 years ago, most recently 18 months ago and again recently. Each time it has gone on constantly for months.

I have tried Stemetil and it did nothing for me. 18 months ago I really pushed for tests and both the neurologist and the ENT specialist feel that these tablets inhibit recovery from dizziness if it is an ear infection / labyrinthitis type thing and should only be taken for a while if you are bad enough to be vomiting with it.

If it is anxiety dizziness which I am coming to accept mine is, then it will eventually go away by itself. It's the usual viscious circle thing though that keeps it going. Worry + anixety = more dizzy = more anxiey + worry = sustained dizziness that does not go away

I wish I had the answers, I have it too and I can't make it go away

Thanks so much for the replies.

I think the dizziness is by far the worse symptom I suffer with. I really feel like I could collapse at any time.

Beadbabe - I saw your new post and you suffer with dizziness, I wondered, do your ADs stop your dizziness? Please dont feel bad about taking meds, Im pregnant, so you can imagine how bad I feel!!!

    Take care - Lizxx

    Hi Lizzie
Well if you are pregnant this must be very hard for you. All this didn't start for me till after my two babies. Did it start pre-pregnancy? I had the most relaxing period in my life while pregnant (well apart from usual pregnancy worries), so maybe you will feel better later in the pregnancy when the relaxing nurturing hormones kick in later on.

Anyway, I have only just started taking antidepressants again today after going downhill for the last few months.

I took them just over a year ago for about 8-9 months and yes my dizziness did go away when I was on them for the most part apart from situations where things would really peak for me - eg. a couple of weddings I had to go to, school events, so I suppose that should prove that that dizziness was caused by anxiety. On them, there were days when the dizziness was long gone and I couldn't imagine what it was even like to feel like this. It was sheer bliss not to feel dizzy!

I don't think the anti-dizzy medications really work for everyone because they are really developed for inner ear problems. with anxiety you don't really have a physical problem - as I understand it, all the symptoms we get are caused by adrenaline and hyperventilation. Not quite sure what happens - but it might be to do with tiny inner ear muscles being strained ever so minutely because of heightened responces due to adrenaline and also to do with hyperventilation which alters the oxygen balance in your blood so can cause all kinds of effects.

    Good luck love!

    Hi Lizzie
I hate taking pills, but my dizziness was so bad it was restricting my life. My doc prescribed Stemetil which worked great for me. Have to say all the side effects I read about (did not experience) worried me, so I kept to just 5mg a day instead of the 15mg prescribed. Was on it for about six months, then took one every second day then third etc, and now take nothing at all. So far so good the dizziness has stayed away, but I wouldn't hesitate to try them again if needs be. Good luck

    Re: medication for dizziness?!?!?!

when my panic attacks first started (years ago) i had a bad cold followed by ear pain, then the dizzyness started, my doc looked into my ears and said everything was fine. Had the dizzyness ever since, its horrible, I walk down the street feeling drunk, sometimes my head feels like its pulling me over to one side. Also if I turn my head to look in a shop windown I loose my balance, its making me scared to move !
Does anyone else feel like this ?
