    Mirtazapine for pain/anxiety

My gp has told me that the prostate pain I feel is caused by anxiety and that I should take Mirtazapine.

Has anyone else been prescribed Mirtazapine (or any SNRI) for any sort of pain condition please?

I've mostly seen coverage on the Internet of Amitriptyline being used for pain and am now feeling anxious that I should be taking that instead :-s

I have heard of this drug being prescribed for IBS. It does help quite a bit from what i know, so perhaps it will help with prostate pain too. Would be interesting to see if it does help. Let us know how you get on.

    Thanks AnxiousBaker
I can feel that it dulls the pain a little already but not enough yet, so will be increasing the dose from 15mg to 30mg for the next few weeks.

I was prescribed mirtazapine for the same reason.

The effects are quite subtle and long term:

improved sleep - helps your body to rest and recover, and should reduce pain
damping of the central nervous system, provides a slight overall decrease in pain perception
improvement in mood - after taking the drug for 3 months or more your pain will become less of an issue to you, enabling you to get on with your life.

After a year on mirtazapine I am now tapering off, my pain has definitely become more manageable and I have been able to take more exercise and enjoy my holidays.

Ok thanks Oldtime. I'm currently just hoping time passes quickly to a point where the Mirtazapine kicks in properly.
