    HI Bell,

I have been suffering from panic attacks for nearly 7 years.

When i first had a panic attack i didnt know what was happening so i went to see my doctor. She had no understanding what so ever i felt as if i was on my own. I then got worse and the depression and agoraphobia set in and i continued to suffer for years with my doctor not helping me! Going back to the same doctor was the worst thing i ever done!

I then made an appointment with a different doctor which was about 18 months ago and that was the best thing i ever done! He has help me so much and he understands, he put me on medication and put me forward to have therapy. It is slow progress but i am slowly trying to get my life back.

What i am trying to say to you is cant you see another doctor? I know it is hard explaining it to different people but they might just have a better understanding of it.

I hope this is of help to you and i wish you all the best! Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk more!

    Take Care

    Hi Bel,

I dont suffer from panic attacks as such hun but I know how you feel about your doctor. I honestly think that some doctors nowadays need some training on how to deal with people who suffer from anxiety. When I go to my doctor all I want really is reasurrance and most of the time I dont even get that. Hope you feel better soon. Msn if you wanna gabxx

    Hello Bell

Welcome. Your GP may not have any idea but we do....

Start here and read up as much as possible.

First Steps to overcoming Panic and Anxiety

Claire Weekes books are a great comfort too.

You will be ok. It's totally horrible whilst it lasts but it can and will pass.

it is scary enough when it first happens as it is, without your doctor (like mine) just looking at you and not knowing how to answer you. i think gps should have to take classes on this, because so many of them just dole out the ad:s and tell you more or less to help yourself.
when i first went to my doc he told me i had had a nervous breakdown without further explanation, i had to self help and got all the bks i could carry claire weekes inc, a few websites and reading later i finally got it. although if my doc was more educated on the subject i could have been reassured a lot sooner. luckily enough when i next went back i seen another doc who kept me in there for 20mins, and he was wondeful, he arranged councilling, explained my options, changed my meds. THANK GOD FOR HIM, but really try the claire weekes books, it all makes sense after.
