    Re: lump in my throat

hi yes this is definitely something i had for 12 years until i took paroxetine. It just eased that whole problem. The same with sweating. I would come back home just from going up the street and i would be drenched in sweat from fear. I feel scared thinking about those old days and often worry about relapsing to be like that again if i try and come off medication.

    Re: lump in my throat

Hi, I'll start off w/i have Hypothyroid and history of Hyperparathyroid tumor. I have felt like I couldnt breath when I lay down for over a year. Felt like something was cutting off air. Was told it might be asthma. put on Inhaler. Didnt' help. But I just dealt with it.
About 6 or 7 weeks ago, I started having swollen lymph nodes...doctors say, "viral", "no, its an infection", "no, its mono." " no, mono test neg, so its viral"
I have had 2 rounds of antibiotics. One round of Antiviral. Am halfway thru third round of Antibiotics (but only to keep me from getting sick while on steroids. Why am I on steroids? Last week I went in hospital because the swelling in lymph glands were extremely painful. At that time, the pain over-rid the lump blocking air. Doctors say they "think" I have a mass in front of trachea and "dont know" what is causing the Lymph to swell. So on Steroids for 3 weeks, slowly reducing amount. Swelling and pain subside, until late evening or early the next day before Steroid meds taken.
So in essence, I feel like maybe the steroids, aside from making me feel weird, are only masking whatever symptoms I am having.
I was told, while in hospital, they would do a CT scan...then they didnt do it. Was not told why they didnt' do it.
Now am waiting another week to see Endocrinologist about "mass".
Someone please give me some insight.
Oh yeah, also was told I "might" have autoimmune. Ok, there are so many of those, so which one?
And why can't I get a definitive answer from anyone?
Its become quite uncomfortable. I cough..not a productive cough. But rather like trying to clear the airway.
(on a side note, they did find "nodules" adjacent to the thyroid and "more lymph nodes than normal" that have "nodules surrounding all but one". According to Endocrinologist here in Australia they would have to bigger than 1.5 cm to biopsey or remove. But according to US Webmd site and Endocrinolist website from states, anything larger than 1cm should have biopsey.
So, how do I say??? I'm so confused and very sick and tired of being sick and tired.
    Someone please help.

    Re: lump in my throat

Thank god I have found this page UK based at that...........
Where do I start, well I am so laid back I am nearly laid down! at least I thought I was!!!
I am an early 40's bloke who is/was pretty fit cycled at least 100 miles a week or 3 x 45 minutes spinning sessions plus 3 sessions of gym work(at home cos I hate gyms!)
I eat well (mediteranean diet mostly)don't smoke and drink little alcohol...about 6 or 7 weeks ago I began getting an annoying pain under my left shoulder blade, I thought it was an old sports injury that usually 'clicks' back in when out on my road(racing) bike with dropped handle bars only this time it didn't....and then it started hurting at the front of my chest near the outside edge of my right collar bone(I smashed it years ago playing rugby...I think commutated is the correct term) which over the period of a week crept along to the inside edge of my collar bone nearest to my sturnum,so I went to the docs to and also informed her of acid reflux I had been having for a while only on and off and then mildly perhaps once a week or so, she advised physio.

Off I went and thought I wouldn't have to go to the docs again for another ten or so years, then one morning I woke up and a little later in the day I had this queesy sick type lump in my throat feeling which wouldn't go away so being a bloke I put up with it for a week thinking it would go away but it didn't, so begrudgingly it was back to the docs, this time she has a lkook in my throat and said my right tonsil was enlarged it hass been for as long as I can remember due to repeated tonsilitis as a child, so I get a referal to see the ENT specialist but it's for 6 weeks away!!! I am doing my nut because A. she mentioned a biopsy so I am thinking the big C, it is ages to wait and C. my dad died last year of lung cancer at 66 with other secondaries, he smoked and I used to on and off years ago but not much and was a welder joining all sorts of nasty metals so in my head I've defo got it...I couldn't think about anything else I lost 3/4 of a stone in 2 weeks didn't want to eat or do anything just be with those closest to me, I wasn't worried per se for myself I was worried about those whom I thought would be left behind...luckily the kids had left home and were/are more or less settled, I worried day and night about my wife coping though I know she easily would/could.

I managed to get an earlier appointment to see the ENT specialist within 2 weeks, I then one day just couldn't go in to work I just couldn't face it, this made it worse as I was at home alone all day with far too much time to dwell on things, my lovely wife came home one day and she knew somnething was wrong and kept asking and , well I just broke down in tears (first time since I was about 12 I reckon despite loads of funerals, tyhe nearest I got was seeing a tv programme anout a Romanian orphanage) .
My Wife comforted me but I was just so alone I didn't want to worry anyone so we kept it to ourselves, she took me to the emergency docs who did all sorts of prodding and poking then asked me to fill in a depression questionairre, I got a score of 13 and Citalopram, equipped with my new meds she/we decided to go away for the weekend...result me in A&E in a major UK city due to massive chest pains and panic attacks at 2.30 in the morning, I didn't want to go but my very good lady insisted I did, I got to see a doctor after 5 or so hours ands felt really bad a I got a trolley but all my wife got was an uncomfortable plastic chair in a ward stinking of fags and urine, I was given anti acid tablets due to me having a duodenal ulcer when I was about 28 from Ibuprofen probably.

I felt crap to be honest I had ruined the weekend and felt like a zombie and thought I felt even stranger than I had been, according to her I was acting strange and realistically I began to agree with her having previously worked in care for some years I thought these were side effects from the meds but wasn't sure.
We came home early but I still had the hands round my trhroat with a lump in it feeling that pretty much went at night but came back the next day as it wore on, it is was also better if I laid down.

A day after we returned just after eating a small meal of boiled fish with mash and two veg with very, very little sauce I was in agony again she called the ambulance and another night in hospital for me.
This time suspected heart attack, but luckily not they did loads of tests and it appears I am rather fit and healthy, thery took me off cItalopram and put me on Mirtrazapine, I felt better within a day or so, still had the throat lump thing but it came and went depending on the day.

I went to the ENT last week and had the camera up the nose and down the throat unusual but not that bad really...the relief though cannot be explained when she said no Cancer and the globus thing was probably more than likley down to an acid, anyway a week on I am back at work and glad of it , I know notice everything (though I was nosey before), to some extent my job doesn't help as I work in the healthcare industry and know a fair bit about cancer etc, I cant change job and I still have some more tests to have done, ie camera down and possibly up (oh matron) and also a ultrasound to see If my gall bladder is acting up as my mother is due to have hers out V soon.

Reading these pages has helped me, I have over the past 7 or so weeks become a shadow of my former self, I was never ill or bothered about anything just pottered gamely on poo pooing illness, I have been to hell and back and I am not exagerating this, it is the loneliest feeling ever even with people who care around you because ultimately it is you and you alone who will or not beat this thing whatever that thing is!, that's what I thought but after reading others experiences and getting the all clear last week I have begun to come out of the other side of this 'low mood' related anxiety/globus thing, hopefully it will go away soon and never return, thank you for sharing your experiences.

    Re: lump in my throat

    Hi mate

Sounds like you are over the worst I can relate to alot of the above and things do start to get back to normal although i do think perhaps we are never the same person again , not in a bad way but just more aware of our own mortality and appreciate things more.
The lump in the throat feeling can also be anxiety causeing the throat muscles to tighten . I,ve had the globus feeling in my back aswell as throat it still comes and goes but is deffo much much better and most days its gone now .

    Take care

Yes I am starting to feel ok in myself and putting weight back on, I can now fit back into some of my jeans again.
The muscles in my neck were so tight with tension that they were giving me tension headaches and even turning my head hurt this was accompanied by a clicking/grating sound that only I could hear inside my head, happy to say this has all but gone now.
As you say you come out I think a better person in some ways definately aware of your own mortality anb far more thankful for things...gone is the sad weekly chore of hoping to win the lottery now all I want is good health for as long as possible!

    Re: lump in my throat

deangraziosi go and see your doctor to be on safe side probaly and inner ear infection or something similar, ...I have now been for a ultrasound scan of my abdomen to see if any gall stones present, the lady who was doing the scan said she couldn't see any or anything at all to cause concern in my abdominal area front or back which is a BIG plus as far as I am concerned.
I still have the throat thing on and off some days it's worse than others so it will be back to the docs I guess when the scan results arrive there to discuss further tests?
Currently getting a whistleing in my left ear thats gets worse as the day goes on though I have been having it on and off for a year or two along with reduced hearing in that ear gueesing it's from 16 years of engineering using angle grinders etc also been feeling sick on and off for few days but there are bugs going round so it's hard to know if it's the meds, a bug or the globus thing, but still feeling better than a few weeks ago.

    Re: lump in my throat

    Hi All,
Whilst searching online I came across this site and found it very interesting so I had to regsiter. As like others on here I have similar conditions in my throat, which has lasted a few months following a viral - triggered by post nasal drip at the back .

What would be beneficial if we could list our conditions / treatments and possibly see some kind of pattern
    • Endoscopy result: stomach lining mildly inflammed
    • My left ear always bunged up & itchy
    • Bloated most of the times
    • Pins and needle feeling on my right hand side / mid of back (when sat driving)
    • Slight increase in weight
    • Waistline tense if sat too for long
My stomach issue began by taking Ibuprofen and the pain still exists. Discomfort pains are usually around my middle of the rib where they meet and to the right (gall bladder area).

My Dr. has requested to have an ultrasound done on my Gall Bladder / Pancrease area and kidneys. I've had a number of blood tests done and they all have come out clear.

I have now started to take vinegar mixed with water and that seems to relax me and lift my mood as my throat makes me feel 'slow like' and moody. Some other pointers below:
    • Chocs make my throat worse
    • Green Tea helps
    • Vicks balm before sleep relaxes muscles
    • I've even used Deep Heat on my neck
Would be good to hear from others and share your tips. Hopefully some Dr will crack it!!

And PLEASE come back if you have resolved your issues
