    how to read synacthen test

    Hi All,

I recently did my Synacthen and the results were as follows:
    Baseline result: 354nmol/L
    30 Mins: 524nmol/L
    60 Mins: 580nmol/L

My TSH0.04 wheras free t3 and t4 are normal.

I have been on 15 mg hydrocortisone and 75 mcg of thyronorm regimen.
However, I had a 24 hrs gap from my last dose. The test were taken between 9 to 10 am.
My Endo has asked me to weaned off Hydrocortisone and reduce my thyronorm to 50 mcg.

Re: how to read synacthen test

Was it for Addison disease ? It's about measuring the levels of cortisol and checking Adrenal cortex ability to produce the steroid.

Was above 190nmol/L - at base line soo indicates all is well x

nmol/L is - nano moles per litre of blood - just a measure of constituents of blood like you'd measure any other fluid just a nano mole is a one billionth 10-9 of a mole and a mole is a constant measure in chemistry with a fixed quanity to measure very very small amounts.
