I don't read or watch the news when I'm very anxious or depressed, as most of the stories are depressing or demoralising. They make me feel vulnerable in a terrible world.
Recently, I've discovered reading positive stories or watching cheerful movies can dramatically lift my mood. I've just finished reading a couple of inspirational Wikipedia articles about the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Henry Blogg, the most decorated lifeboatman. I think its good to remind yourself occasionally that world can be wonderful too.
Oh, and I also watch videos shot from the air on YouTube that show beautiful places around the world. I particularly recommend "Beautiful World - Scotland", a YouTube video by witty dud. Stunning scenery and haunting music!
