Sensation of numbness in side of face

I'm tired of telling doctors my face feels numb because it isn't numb- I still have full control,and it doesn't feel different to the side of my face that isn't affected by this sensation, but it's a terribly disconcerting sensation nonetheless.
Does anyone experience faux numbness of the face and know what causes it?
