URGENT !! Please help ?

I have had a swollen lymph node for almost five months. About four months ago I finally asked my doctor about it. He hadn't seen it before because of my beard. He did notice it from across the room when I mentioned it and said he thought it might be a little salivary gland infection. He gave me antibiotics which brought it almost all the way down and he sent me to an ENT specialist.

The specialist checked it.. when it had almost gone all the way down and not hurting and pushed on it until it hurt. He asked ,is this it? I said yes almost passing out from the pain. He told me that it was just a swollen lymph node and sent me on my way. He told my internist that it was nothing,no cancer no need for further checking. My internist felt it and said there was very little residual swelling nothing to be concerned about. I told him the ent had hurt me by pushing on it , he said nothing..

He said I have no cancer and that it was fine and that was all that was said. Well here it is weeks later.. and there is still a little rise in that area and it hurts.. when it brushes against my collar or when I turn my neck it hurts .Somedays I don't feel it at all other days it seems to hurt for no reason. Is this normal? My internist told me that more than likely it was caused by dental work, or poor dental health... and as long as my dental health was bad it would be swollen from time to time.

He said if it didn't stop bothering me that he would do some more extensive blood work and see if it was contributed to something further down. Well to make a long story short..I still have bad dental work and allergy problems and sinus etc etc etc..so should it still be tender or should it have gone away by now?

Has anyone else had one that stays tender forever?Im so worried.I am suppose to see him again next week and scared there is something really wrong since it still hurts.I haven't had any other symptoms of anything except it hurting some.. if you have had anything like this ,this long please tell me so I won't be so worried. .Thanks in advance..

Hello. From what I understand is that tender lymph nodes are usually from infection. I have nodes under my jaw that I can feel all of the time. I also have a salivary stone in my right submandibular gland. I had an ultrasound and MRI and even though I thought my nodes were huge and swollen, my MRI report said no swollen lymph nodes. Are you constantly touching this node? That will keep it sore. Some nodes never go back down to original size. ENT'S look at heads and necks all day. I would trust what your ENT says Hope this helps.

If antibiotics brought the inflammation down then its probably an infection. You should see a dentisr and get ur teef straightened out because they may be the culprit. Im not a doctor so do not take anything 8 say to heart. Just try to relax and control your anxiety about your lymph nodes. I have to that freak me the freak out every time I touch them , but an ent and my internist both told me they seem harmless. I had a cbc and all of the info was "perfect" they say. Try to trust the doctors that told you nothing was swriously wrong, and try to stay busy with something so you dont sit and dwell on ur nodes.

Thanks to both of you..Im sure it has everything to do with dental as my doctor said and yes it rubs against my collar and im all time running my fingers across it so im sure its not making it feel better by doing that. I will be going to the doctor in a few days but im sure he will say the same..thanks..

You might want to ask your dentist to X-ray the inside. It might be an abscessed tooth.
