Re: I'm sat in hospital watching my dad slowly slip away

It's weird. Yesterday we got some good news. Doctors were even talking about recovery. I was full of optimism. I went home smiling. Then 3am I get a call saying he's taken a turn for the worse.

Surgeon said he shouldn't even be alive right now. Sums him up perfectly. Also said he doesn't have long left. He's still here 3-4 hours later fighting until the very end.

He sounds like my old Dad, tough as old boots! You are very brave Worried Male, but please remember to make sure you eat and get plenty of fluids, he would not want you to neglect yourself.

Worried Male. I am so sorry that you are going through this and hope you can spend as much time with your Dad as possible.

I know what it's like to see a loved one so ill in Hospital, me feeling helpless and knowing they're slipping away.

Don't feel bad about typing things here, Worried Male. We're all here for you. NMP helped me when my Mum was in Hospital and sadly died.

    Keep talking to your Dad.

    Sending you friendly hugs.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. It is horrible when you see someone who is your hero and who you looked up to become so ill :( I hope posting on here helps you make sense of how you are feeling, sometimes just writing/typing it all out helps.

He sounds like a man with a real fighting spirit and a real love of life. I can only hope he defies the doctors again and beats this.

There is plenty of support on here for you no matter what happens. Stay strong like your old man.

He's still fighting 13 hours after I was told to say goodbye to him.

He's very stable, but that could change if he had another bleed.

He's very frail and weak, not eaten a proper meal in weeks. For him to put up this kind of fight just sums him up; tough and stubborn.

I don't know what the future holds. He shouldn't even be here right now. It's in God's hands. No matter what, I'm proud of the fight he has put up.

Wow, what a fighter your dad must be!! I am so sorry you are in this situation right now. You and your family are in my thoughts. I've been there myself, it's awful, so please know we are all pulling for your dad.
