Graphic Novels & Comic Books: Discussion

Im hoping there are some comic book readers out there in nomorepanic world, some geeks like me?

Maybe we can discuss comic book developments, graphic novels etc

My favourite graphic novel of all time is 'Watchmen' by Alan Moore, I like it for the same reasons that most others do, that it subverts the superhero mythology and makes them incredibly flawed characters. The 12 part comic book series works when read as a novel as the story develops and links well, its a great read.

the movie is aprobaly as good as we could hope for and was okay, certainly better than Zach Snyders other comic films for DC.

    Hi Mezzaninedoor.

I love 'Watchmen' too (Although the ending is pretty weird). Its odd palette is so unique - the secondary colours really drive home the idea of a strange alternate reality.

I may be in the minority who really liked the movie. I only saw the Director's Cut though, so maybe the theatrical release had more issues.

Admittedly I haven't read too many comics - It's a little expensive to get deep into.

So far my favourite book/s though have been a bit of an oldie: Mike Grell's 'Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters' and the series that followed.
Grell basically ripped the character out of the DC universe and turned him into an urban hunter not afraid to shoot people with real arrows. It ran for 80-odd issues made up of mini-arcs and the writing's so good.

Lawks Lola-Lee, whereever did you find that

Ryan, Longbow Hunters is a fabulous collection, had forgotten about how good Mike Grell was, it was a joy to have Neil Adams Green Lantern/Green Arrow work followed up a bit later by the great Grell Arrow work

    The Hardy Boys, how appropriate.
