    Re: Fibro

My mom does, and one of my best friends does. I know it can be hereditary. Over the last year or so I’ve noticed that certain areas of my body genuinely hurt, badly, when lightly pressed on. Pressure points from what I understand. And I have days where I have horribly painful joints, but rarely in the same place each time lol. I haven’t been tested, but it’s always in the back of my mind as well.

I've lived with chronic pain caused by trigger points and fibromyalgia for years now. I take meds - principally Pregabalin - which help control symptoms. Ironically, the fatigue and tiredness cause more problems than pain for me.

What makes you suspect fibromyalgia and what symptoms are you getting? There are 3 major components of fibromyalgia: Sleep quality, pain levels/tender points and mood/cognition.

I thought I had flu last week, it might have been flu but the muscle and joint pains I had matched the tender points I've seen online. I get brain fog that I put down to migraine. My sleep is not great and I do suffer with anxiety and depression . Might just be old age

I've had fibro for 15 years, and it seems to have gone into remission over time. It was debilitating at first, so I'm thankful I learned how to manage it, with rest, exercise, nutrition, and supplements. Then I was hit with chronic fatigue syndrome (myalgic encephalomyelitis), and that's been a new learning curve. Pacing, rest, nutrition, and supplements are making it more manageable, and I'm hoping it'll go into remission too.

I have CFS which often goes hand in hand with Fibro. Both of these are autoimmune conditions. A positive thing is that although it is painful, the inflammation doesn't do any permanent damage to the muscles or joints.

It does tend to come in flares which can be unpredictable. Stress can exacerbate the symptoms.

I took the test online, its a American college of something test where they ask dozens of questions about how you feel. It did come back as positive for fibromyalgia, but again, its just an online test....not a diagnosis.

I often think I Have fibro or CFS but when I look at the symptoms clearly....im starting to doubt it. I do have issues with fatigue, but its not post-exertion. I also get sleep issues, mood/cognition issues, twitching, spasms, cramps, tingling....but not tender point pains and overall pains. CFS guys have serious fatigue all day, I don't. Fibro guys get serious pains all over, I don't.

So, I began thinking maybe hypothyroid? 5 years ago a psychiatrist gave me a basic thyroid test and it came back fine, but some say the basic thyroid test means very little. Who knows.

Yes, it could be a number of things. About CFS, though, it behaves differently for different people. My brother was diagnosed with it at a dedicated CFS clinic, but he doesn't have post-exertional malaise, nor debilitating fatigue all day long. He has a handful of different related symptoms though.

My fatigue is definitely worse after exertion, but it isn't always at the same level. It's unpredictable. It comes in waves, and some times are better than others. Some days I'm on the couch most of the day, and others I'm able to get a lot done.

If you like, I can send you the link to a medical document by CFS specialists. It's helpful for family doctors who don't know how to diagnose CFS, because it lists all the tests to run which will rule everything else out first. CFS is a diagnosis of exclusion, so that's the simplest way to start getting real answers. My doctor found the document helpful, so I'd be glad to send it to you if you want to pass it on to your family doctor too. For me, hearing about CFS was a relief, because it helped me make sense of my symptoms. I realized it was manageable, and that there were things I could do to help myself feel better.
