Shortness of breath for the past two days. What could it be?

I've been feeling out of breath whenever I try to talk and often by the end of a sentence. This started yesterday and is still there today.

I hope this is nothing sever. I've read that a vocal cord tumor can cause vocal cord paralysis, and that ALS can have a respiratory onset...is it normal to just have some days where you feel out of breath just from speaking 1 or 2 sentences?

It can happen, yes - it's far more likely to be the onset of a virus than anything really nasty.

I had an issue like this that would last for weeks/months at a time. I was always really, really focused on my breathing. And I would try to take a deep breath and could never get a decent one.

I had tests and x-rays/CT scans. Guess what? It was mental - nothing wrong at all. Breathing is the worst possible thing to focus on, because you can really, really cause yourself all sorts of issues. So then you think there is something wrong, which only makes it worse.

If it persists, I'd recommend going to your GP and telling him/her.

In the meantime, try to relax and not worry. I know that is easier said than done.
