Random bruises on sertraline?

So yeah, I'm taking sertraline for almost a month now. Yesterday I noticed about 10 bruises spread all over my thighs. And I found out it can be a side effect of Zoloft. My leaflet says to contact a doctor ASAP and it freaked me out. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist next Thursday.
I also connected the dots and I had similar issue while on Paroxetine two years ago, just never googled it then. The bruises disappeared gradually and never came back when my body got used to it. But well, this time I'm scared 🙃

Does anybody have this? Is this really so serious? The bruises are small and mostly yellow.

All SSRIs, SNRIs and some TCA antidepressants (ADs) are mild anticoagulants. Serotonin is not only a brain neurotransmitter. It has many functions throughout the body including in wound repair (blood platelets are the largest store of serotonin) and this can be impacted by ADs, especially when first taking these meds.

It is not usually a concern if the AD is the only blood thinner being taken, but definitely discuss this with your psychiatrist next Thursday. If you need to take an over-the-counter painkiller for more than a day at a time then paracetamol, aka acetaminophen, is the better option because NSAID class meds such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen are also mild anticoagulants.
