citalopram and weight gain (again!)

I know there's just been a thread on this but I've just been reading various stuff on the net and feel so annoyed that the gp didn't warn me about this side effect. I'm starting to feel really down about my appearance now. Does anyone know if the weight comes off when you come off citalopram? Thanks a lot. Pipsie

Hi there I was just about to post a thread asking about this!

I suffer from an eating disorder and my gp knows this so i am also angry he hasnt mentioned this side effect. Im supposed to start taking them today and although ive been prescribed them for depression and anxiety not my ED, im feeling really anxious about whether i should take them, i know if i start to gain weight its just going to spiral into a vicious circle and will only do more harm than good!

Would be great to here from anyone who didnt actually gain weight on this medication!

hey not every one gains weight on this medication i have actually lost weight and lost my appetite ,

I gain weight when on it but lose it quickly when I come off of citalopram!

hi simone. I've been on it for about 6 months but have just gone down to 10mg from 20 as I want to come off it now! I think you should discuss further with your gp or maybe get a second opinion.
