What medication works for you best?

Hiya

My anxiety has been up for quite some time and it is not due to go down any time soon, not whilst I am stressing over my university application, wedding and housing.

I was on medication - citalopram 10mg - this year but it made me suicidal. I was wondering whether anybody could give me any good experiences on the medication they are using so I can forward this to my doctor (he seems to let me choose my treatment as I am a health diploma student ....).

I dont mean to be rude, and yes I agree we should have say in what meds we take but not being a qualified doctor, surely he shouldnt be leaving it up to you to choose. what works for some doesnt for others and vice verca. I think unfortunately with these meds its trial and error and we all get different side effects - sorry if you think im being horrid but surely you need his input. also how long were you on citalopram?

If the doctor realises that his patient knows more than, or as much as, he does about medication, I think it's very good of him to let the patient choose.

My experience is that doctors are more willing than they used to be to take patients' opinions seriously, as long as they're not arrogant. Doctors know there's a lot of reliable health information on the Web and I've been encouraged my doctor to read up on different drugs.
