Thread: Globus Hystericus??? (not so hysterical)

Re: Globus Hystericus??? (not so hysterical)

    Hi all,
I also have this feeling of lump in the throat and believe it has something to do with anxiety. I suffered from it about 25 years ago for 2years during my late teens. Then I went through hell, took my tonsils out, thought about it all day, but it goes away when I forget about it, socialising or happy. At last a doctor gave me a placebo tablet without my knowing it at the time and it disappeared the following day. It has just resurfaced again just last two weeks and probably because I have been through severe anxiety period in the last year. There are websites promising herbal remedies, not too sure, any one tried herbal remedy?

Hi. Yes I had this a couple of months ago. It started off as if I was coming down with swollen glands for a few days then the discomfort was in my throat when you try and swallow and yes it feels like a lump in your throat you can't get rid of. I went to the doc who put me on Omeprozole for a month and it went away after a couple of weeks. She said it could be part anxiety and gastro reflux. Have you tried that medication? Unfortunately a few weeks after finishing the meds I've been having digestion problems and have posted for the first time today on here so its swings and roundabouts! It is a lot to do with anxiety because so many people have the same problem and I never knew about it until recently. Don't worry you're not alone and its nothing to worry about. x

I have the same lump feeling in my throat...cancer comes to mind....then I remember how much anxiety I have and have had for several years. This throat sympton is a new one for me, after reading many posts I have exactly the same throat issues as everyone else, it does put your mind at ease.

Me too! How are you doing since your post is from awhile ago? The sides of my neck, shoulders & back hurt. My throat feels like there's something stuck and I'm burping or belching alot! It's annoying but my anxiety has been kicking my butt the past few months this lumpy feel is new for me.

Re: Globus Hystericus??? (not so hysterical)

I have read all the posts in this thread and am amazed at the different ways that Globus can manifest itself. Although I have not been officially diagnosed with it, I am quite sure that its what I have.

I originally read that it feels like choking, although for me it does feel like that at times but most of the time it is a severe tightness and/or tension that moves around my neck area and also comes and goes. I have had it for about 3 months now.

In my case it is mostly located in the triangular muscle on my front right side that runs from my right ear to above my collar bone and on my left side muscle where my jaw meets my neck. Sometimes it feels like a tightening or fullness under my chin and down my throat. It definitely feels muscular. Sometimes it feels like swelling but when I ask someone if my neck looks swollen they always say no. I have never really had trouble swallowing. It makes me want lto ift my chin up to make it feel better. Sometimes it cramps my jaw.

Relief during the day is minimal but when it leaves for a short while there is a cool sensation of relief in the area.

I keep thinking that a gland under the left side of my jaw is swollen but when I compare recent and old photos of myself I cant notice any appreciable difference.

I also have tinnitus which I have had for a while (a remnant of benzo withdrawal) but it has been much worse since this globus thing.

It really is annoying and unnerving and does tend to bring on my anxiety which, of course, only worsens it.

Can some of you with this offer some of your symptoms with Globus.

Does yours come and go or is it constant? Does it move around your neck or stay in the same place?

What I am experiencing is a severe tightness and/or tension that moves around my neck area and also comes and goes. I have had it for about 3 months now. It is mostly located in the triangular muscles on the front/sides of the neck that run from the ears to above the collar bone. Can anyone relate? Your input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mine is constant and feels like fullness in the neck and a tightening of the throat. It affects me so badly that I can't lie on a sofa or in bed watching TV as the angle makes my throat so uncomfortable.

I get different things..A few eeks ago I had the lump in throat thing and it was like at the base of my neck at my collar bone and I felt the need to swallow all the time. But it gradually went away. Afew days ago though I felt it coming back and I jsut forced myself to forget about it.

But now instead, the big muscles in the neck all feel really sore and tense.

I dunno if it's all related?
