    Citalopram and the Flu

    hi there
i was just wondering if [and what] you could take when you are on citalopram [20mg] and you have started to have symptoms of the flu??
i took one of those 'day nurse' tablets this evening and it kind of made my anxiety/depression worse [or is it in my head??]

i know there are some more experienced citalopram takers than myself - i am only at the end of day 15, but i would really appreciate some advice, as i dont want to go off my meds but obviously dont want to have a bout of full-on flu!!!
    thanks a million

    Hi waterfall!

    How are you?

Its interesting you mention flu like symptoms. I mean, it might be worth talking to your GP, but I'm wondering if this is part of the cit. side effects. I had an experience of feeling like I was coming down with a bad headcold and aches when I first started taking the medication, which did make me feel rubbish for a while, but it did eventually pass

But, I wonder what other forumers have to say about this

I noticed when I didn't take it I got flu like symptoms. I'd take paracetamol for the flueyness fever as I didn't want to take any meds that made me drowsy. If it's physical achieness I'd take ibuprofen as this seemed to help my joints.

You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen OR asprin at the same time if you have both.I usually staggered it though, 2 paracetamol then some ibuprofen 2 hours later.

I've been on Citalopram for two days (2 x 20mg tablets) and have flu like symptoms. Mild fever and felt cold all day. Just had a red hot bath and feel much better. First time I've felt warm today.
