Palpitations when falling asleep - please help!!!

I had a very stressful day today - I was full of worry all day. I finally decided to lay down on the couch and started to doze off. All of a sudden, it felt like my heart went bonkers! I sat up quickly - that didn't help, so I grabbed my glass of water and took 2 big sips and it stopped. I had no pain, no lightheadedness, but obviously I started to panic because I was on the verge of fall asleep and was rudely awakened! I've had palpitations for over 2 years now - I've been evaluated by the hospital, a cardiologist and my GP, all which say it's due to anxiety because I don't have any heart issues. But I still can't get it through my head that I'm fine. Has this happened to anyone before? I'm panicking about it....big time! Please help!!!!!

don't panic this happens sometimes when we are resting ,,adrenaline surge that's what makes the heart faster,,you see the brain never sleeps ,,so even thou we are it keeps sending out these thoughts and feelings ,i think we who suffer with this anxiety are clever people that's why we are so alert ,,anyway please don't worry too much xmaggie
