    referred to specialist hospital physcologist

i have been having CBT sessions at my local doctors for a while now with a trained mental health person, i dont know his exact role. But after todays session he has referred me to see a specialist at the hospital to try and sort out my health anxiety, as he has tried everything he can do.

is this normal that they refer you to someone at the hospital for physcology treatment?

It is quite usual to be seen by a psychologist at the hospital yes. When I had my CBT I was seen by a social worker who then referred me to the hospital. To be honest I think it's probably much better so see a qualified psychologist as not only are they highly qualified but they do CBT too. A lot of the CBT offered at the moment through GP's is by people who have been fast tracked through the NHS from other departments and don't really have much knowledge of anxiety issues, least that was my own experience. I hope it works out for you

I was diagnosed with OCD years ago (I was told that my health anxiety was a form of OCD) .. anyway, I was sent to a therapist and saw her for a very long time but it didn't seem to help. Last year I took CBT, this didn't seem to help either so they sent me to another counsellor ... nada. Nothing changed. I'd really like to see a specialist but I don't know if there even are specialists where I live. I hope your problems get sorted soon. HA is a nightmare.

I do hope you manage to get to see someone who does specialise in your particular form of anxiety. I have to say over the years I have become very disillusioned with the help available on the NHS, but I can't afford to go private either.

My anxiety is so longstanding that I think it would take years of therapy to cure me so I just plod along and try to help myself as best as I can, which isn't always easy.
