cipralex and weight gain

anyone else had this or is it just me im wondering??

i have 4 children but am at my heaviest now than i have ever been.

i have been on 5mg cipralex for just over 4 years and have tried my very hardest to loose weight many times and just do not succeed which gets me down even more.

tuesday just gone i joined weight watchers but i have tried this and other diets several times before with no luck.

really am beginning to wonder if its my meds??

Can be the meds. I seemed to gain alot of weight after I started taking beta blockers. I read up on them and found out that some of them, including propranolol which I take can stimulate the release of insulin, which can affect the storage of sugar. Now I'm better on a low-carb diet with foods that don't trigger insulin release. Perhaps other members here who take the same meds as you can tell you of their experience with them with regard to weight.

I've been taking Propanalol and Cipralex for just over a year and have gained over two stone. Dr said it could be meds mixed with the anxiety. I have tried weight watchers etc with no success. My weight is affecting my health even more now but i need my meds still so in no win situation. My gp gave me reductil to help with the weight but it can give you high blood pressure and i think i got enough problems. You could ask your gp for a weight loss drug if your willing to risk side effects, but i know exactly how you feel. Good luck.

i am in the same situation - i am on cipralex and have put on so much weight.i take orlistat on and off, and mummy4 i am terrified of meds but this one only interacts with your tummy and does nothing to your head which is why i not so scared - side effects are loose bowels.

Congrats on the weight loss. I was on Cipralex and Propranolol (80mg) for just over a year and I put on a stone in weight. I started withdrawing from Propranolol 3 months ago and have finally been off them now for 2 weeks. The weight is slowly starting to come off and the Dr assures me the weight I put on will drop back off again. I've been on Cipralex a few times, but had no problems with weight gain then. It was definitely the Propranolol which piled my weight on.

well the weight loss did not last long. i have put it all back on plus more!
