    Too anxious to sleep.

I'm too anxious to sleep and don't know why...

I had less than 2 hours last night (and thought that was over essay, which got up and worked on at 4am, and is sorted as much as it can be for now). And had no sleep the night before (probably panicking about lectures), but tonight there's no real reason and I just can't settle. Tried CD, Valium (am scared to take much more)... anybody have any suggestions?! Am rather desperate- thanks,

    Hannah x

    Hi Hannah,

I’m the same as you I can’t really sleep either I’m lucky if I get around four hours per night which really doesn’t help my anxiety during the day. I have also tried my Valium but it only knocks me out for a few hours so no point in taking that. If your body doesn’t have tolerance levels to the Valium try taking 2-3 of them it won’t do you any harm. Normal Valium is 10mg this is the blue one the white ones are on 2mg so three is like half of a blue one. My doctor offered to prescribe me the higher dose but I would rather do it cold turkey but it may help you through this rough period.

    Heya Robert,

Sorry you are having the same problem- I tend to take about 50mg to get more than 10 hours sleep when I need it. [:I]

I will have to find something else, I think...

    hi hannah,
sorry you had such a miserable night last night. i wish i'd had one of my sleepless ones (they come quite often) and then we could have kept eachother company.
i have various ways of trying to help myself get to sleep. obviously the usual bath/hot drink stuff to begin with. then i do a relaxation type cd which is boring as hell and which, on a good day, sends me to sleep because it's so dull!
if i'm really anxious to the point of panic, i take a bit of valium but then i find the best way to deal with it is to pretend that it is, in fact, daytime. i tell myself there is no pressure on me to sleep, i can stay up all night if i want to. i set myself up with tv/internet, whatever i want to do to distract myself. eventually, i do drift off, even if it is 2 or 3 am.
you have probably tried all this already, but just thought i'd post it anyway.
hope you get a better night's sleep tonight,
    henri x

Hannah mate have you ever thought of listening to a relaxation tape??

I really like Glenn Harrold's Complete relaxation which I got off Amazon.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Henri, you're right- I have tried all of that! lol. I do tend to stay up normally and just wait til I *have* to sleep, but had things to do the following day!

I listen to Relaxation Cds daily- ones my hypnotherapist gave me also- the other night was just rather bad- thanks guys.
