so scared, mole, please advise

Hi all,

I have a mole on my thigh that has been there for as long as i can remember, it is round, pinkish in colour and slightly raised, it got sunburnt once when I was about 18, am now 41.

About 16 months ago, I noticed that it had a few brownish areas on it, I fiddled with the mole as I am a picker. I also went to see a dermatologist, the brown areas had gone, where I had fiddled, and she said the mole looked perfectly normal.

Anyway, I check it about once a month, and about 2 weeks ago, I noticed some brown on it again, I freaked and made appointment to see dermatologist. I also wiped the mole with wet cotton wool and the brown area came away, it has healed normally again.

I saw the dermatologist yersterday, and she says she will remove me as it is obviously worrying me.

I am so scared that I picked off a melanoma 16 months ago, and that it has come back, worried that it would have grown downwards into my body.

I can't sleep, feel so scared. Can benign moles change colour,why does the colour come off so easily, can you pick off a melanoma.

Please help, thank you.

If a specialist has seen it then it will be fine. Once removed they send them off anyway for analysis.

You will be fine once it is removed.

Someone close to me had a mole on their back last year,She asked her GP about it . They said it was ok. Then over the summer she met up with a friend who is a Dr. She had a low back dress on at the time and her Dr friend said go to another GP in the practise,which she did. Any way to cut a long story short she had it removed.We were all worried.it had been knocked about a bit,with washing and dressing as well.Everything was ok in the end.Any one who is worried about unusual moles should be aware,and that is always wise to have a second opinion,if need be.
