    Re: Coming off Citalopram

Hi, I came down from 40mg to 20mg to 10mg and then 10mg every other day and then stopped completely. It took a few months but I worked full-time and didn't have to take any time off. I had a few days holiday but that's about it. Touch wood, I didn't find it too bad, I get the occasional head rush, dizziness and feel slightly sick but all in all it has not been that awful. It has been 2 weeks and 2 days since my last tablet and I suppose it is still early days but I have been ok, and I thought I would never be able to come off of them!!
    All the best to you

Thank you for that word of encouragement Janine. I am a bit worried about when it is time to come off and the effects that might cause me and working.

    Hello,

I have taken citalopram in the past and sucessfully weaned off very slowly without the need to take time off. I think as long as you do it very slowly you should be fine.

    Hope that helps.

You can ask your Dr. but if you would be more calm you can reduce the dose to 5mg for a couple of weeks and then stop it completely. Although six months is very short period and the dose of 10mg is minimal- you can stop it completely without going through 5mg.
