OCD and IQ

I read somewhere once about a correlation between higher then average IQ scores and OCD. Not that one is the cause of the other or anything but that people with OCD often have higher then avaerge IQ's. I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that is true of them? I personally don't think IQ is a measure of intelligence at all because intelligence comes in many forms and somebody can be academically not so clever but very artistic or creative for example, which is just as intelligent in a different way. I think it is more a measure of problem solving abilities and the ability to think around things which is why maybe we think around things too much with OCD! I've done quite a few different IQ tests and mine has come out between 123-132 which is above average (100ish). Just interested to see if anyone else's IQ is above average? I'm not singling anyone out who's IQ is lower because like I said, I don't beleive it really measures "intelligence" anyway.

Re: OCD and IQ

Hi Charlotte,

I've often thought there was a strong correlation between higher intelligence and a propensity to OCD. Agreed, I would include artistic ability.

Re: OCD and IQ

Hi

I also score very high on IQ tests (but lack common sense and any kind of creativity altogether!!! ) and I have a very analytical mind, which I think fuels my OCD. Not a good combination!

Re: OCD and IQ

I scored a 132 on an IQ test and have also never had any problem in school, however I do lack in the common sense department and also have had OCD since as long as I can remember. Maybe there is something to this.

Re: OCD and IQ

I think some of the internet scores are higher then an official test would be. I did one in a book once and it came out a bit lower but was still above average. I reckon the analytical mind and OCD combo is not a good one! My brain never stops analyzing everything, it can get really annoying.
