    Bright/artificial light and lightheadedness?

I'm not sure whether it's the lighting that's causing the lightheadedness all on it's own or whether me feeling anxious anyway + the artificial lighting is making me feel lightheaded.

One weird symptom that's crocked up recently is feeling anxious when in/around artificial lighting. I notice that at home at night when we have the lights on I start feeling a bit weird & lightheaded. I feel better when there's not so many lights on. I do get anxiety at home anyway, due to having a panic attack at home a few months back but it's almost like the lighting makes me feel worse, I feel quite trapped & imprisioned & spaced out. I've noticed it at work too - I work in a supermarket & at night when the artificial lights come on I start feeling weird, lightheaded again.

Anyone else feel 'funny' under artificial lighting?

I hate fluorescent lighting. So when I'm at work I bought lamps with low wattage bulbs. So when the light is too bright it messes up my vision and sometimes gives me headaches. I feel your pain!!

Yep. Years ago now but after I had a panic attack at home I had to have the lights off or right down and windows open. I was bothered by bright light and needed cold fresh air in the room.

This is a constant for me, even when I'm not feeling particularly anxious. Supermarkets usually leave me feeling light headed or dizzy, and bright sunny days aren't my thing either. I asked my optician about this, she said anxiety dilates your pupils and leaves you quite sensitive to bright lights, and for some reason, especially fluorescent lights.

I don't like them either. That's interesting, Mr Jitters.I always keep my sunglasses in my bag anyway, and put them on if I need to.

As in the words of the great John Lennon
Whatever gets you through the night(or bright light)

Oh wow! Didn't realise it was a pretty common thing!

& Yes, very interesting about the fact that anxiety dilates your pupils & makes you sensitive to lights. That's probably what's happening to me at work! & I suppose it's not particularly healthy to be stuck inside somewhere with no windows, I suppose it would make you feel quite lethargic & give you a headache after a while.
