    Worrying symptoms in throat.

    Hi

I'm currently having some worrying symptoms that won't go away.

Around a year ago I noticed I had trouble swallowing saliva. But swallowing food and water was absolutely fine so I put it down to globus.

Around 3 weeks ago I noticed I had a sore throat. The pain intensifies when i swallowed. I also found it made me want to cough to clear my throat. It also made my voice a little weaker. I also get intimitent ear aches throughout this time.

While shaving I noticed one of my lymph nodes was up and tender. All these symptoms are still here 3 weeks later.

However last week I got a strange sensation at the bottom of my throat/neck near my collarbone. A pressure feeling that is worse when I lay down on my back but eases a little when I sit up por stand up.

That last symptom now has me spooked as I wondering if something is pressing on it when I lay down. It a feeling I have never felt before.

Anyone else have this problem? I gargle with salt water 3 times a day but nothing shifts it.

    Hiyer,

You don't mention here if any of the symptoms above have been checked medically ?

I know that actually you do have a few 'real' diagnosed illnesses, and had a pretty nasty health scare last time you were posting on here. So, wondering really if you have taken any advice on this new set of symptoms or not.

    Hi Cary's

    Thanks for replying.
I've made an appointment with my GP. Unfortunately its a few weeks away. (Typical of my over stretched GP's). I think I will keep ringing them and see if I can get a cancellation for this week. I don't know how much a gp can look at regarding my throat, but if he can't see much then I hope he will make an appointment to see an ent.
I get sore throats very often, had then for years, they just normally go away in a week or so but this one seems to be getting worse. The main difference is this pressure feeling near the bottom of my neck. I've never felt that before.

I've been on pronteprazole since before the new year so I'm sure its not a reflux issue.

Welllllllllllll, all I can say to you is this - you've been here before, quite a few times as it happens. I'm betting the outcome is similar, you have 'something' which is troublesome and non-sinister. It really could be anything...so I don't even want to try and make guesses. I guess though, as you've only had l'il ole me reply that others don't recognise those as anxiety symptoms, or certainly the pressure at the bottom of the throat/neck. From your past posts, I will say that although you have HA, you are also very astutue at picking up when there really is a symptom that can't be accounted for through anxiety. So, glad you have made an appointment.Have you started any new medications?

    Hi

Just thought I would respond with results. Went to see ENT specialist. I've also been having problems breathing through my right nostril. Turns out I have a severely deviated septum on my right side hence why it feels blocked. I can have an op if I want but it may not work. It can be risky and op leave a hole in the septum or even leave my top lip numb. Now I know what it really is I guess I feel better and less anxious about not getting air through it.

I also had a scope down my throat and all looks clear so I've been diagnosed with silent reflux and he says the problem with swallowing my saliva will be globus as food and liquid goes down fine and will go away if I stop over thinking it. He believes my constant sore throat will be linked to breathing through my mouth while asleep at night due to not getting enough air through my nostrils. He's doubled my prescription of pronteprozole and also given me peptac liquid. If the symptoms are the same in 3 months I have to contact my go again.

So the key is always go and get it checked and more likely will be nothing serious.

    Good result there

    Similar situation for me.

I had a period of acid reflux over Christmas and that also coincided with a post nasal drip.

An ENT specialist put me on Omeprozole for the acid reflux, for nearly 3 months. He wanted me to continue with Omeprozole, but they were causing me real issues, along with the Gaviscon / Peptic.
He also informed me of my badly S shaped deviated septum and the post nasal drip running down my throat, causing inflammation on the back of the larynx and mucous. I also get earache and my voice is not "full volume". My nostrils are rarely clear.
Sometimes I would sleep with my mouth open and this would dry my mouth and throat terribly.
I also use Tramadol and other pain meds, for a chronic back condition, and they too dry my mouth and throat.

I decided to see a Gastroenterologist and ask for an endoscopy. I had that done, with a Bravo chip fitted, that determined my reflux measured at 3 - the range is from 0 to 14.72.

With the above I understood that I did not need the Omeprozole and instead modified my diet, not eating for a few hours before bed etc etc.

As I want a second opinion to the ENT specialist wanting to do a Septoplasty I have booked another ENT specialist in for Thursday this week, I will get a letter of referral from my doctor tomorrow morning.

I was told that the S shaped (affecting both of my nostrils) deviated Septum will not go away with surgery but wanted another opinion before resorting to such a procedure.

I did not feel comfortable with an ENT specialist prescribing long term PPI medication without seeing a Gastro specialist, the Gastro specialist also agreed with that.
Difficult one as there is an obvious overlap there...!

    Best wishes for you
