    blood sugar level

i just tested mine and it read 4.4, does anyone know what this means????

i had a cereal bar at 5pm and before that had a weight watchers meal at 12ish and i have just had some soup now (after the test)

anyone know if 4.4 is normal and when is it classed as not normal??

    xx

4.4 is absolutely perfect, you're miles away from the upper limit.

    Re: blood sugar level

The often quoted normal range for blood glucose is 4-7 or 4-8, but if you haven't eaten much it's not uncommon to go into the 3.0s.

I remember when we were all taught how to use blood glucose monitors on ourselves last year (medical students) - I was 4.4, most people were 3-5.

    Re: blood sugar level

Normal level of sugar in blood before your meal is between 70 and 110 mg/dl. After food, level will rise in between 100 to 140. The increased level of blood sugar above 140 mg/dl is considered to be the symptoms of diabetics. Low level of sugar, below 70 is also dangerous. It may cause fainting.
The two main tests used to measure diabetes are (a) Fasting Plasma Glucose Test, the direct measurement of glucose levels in the blood after an 8 hour (overnight) fast, and (b) Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, measurement of the body's ability to appropriately handle the excess sugar presented after drinking a high glucose drink

    Re: blood sugar level

we measure blood sugar differently in the UK to the US so if its between 4-7 you are fine. trust me I have been insulin dependant diabetic sicne I was 8 yrs old - if you have any questions about it feel free to ask.
