10mg to 20mg of Cipralex

Hi all

I started out on Cipramil a year ago and the dr swopped me to new Cipralex (escitalopram) about 8 months ago. Have been on 10mgs all this time. Am now feeling like the tabs are working as well and wondered whether anyone else has had to up their dose and whether 20mg seems to work better ??

Hi Katie,

I took 20mg cipralex for about 8 months and found they worked well....its hard to compare though as I was only on 10mg for a month. Has your dr suggested increasing the dose?

No when I suggested it to him last time he said he didn't think it would make much difference !!!! I feel like I need something a little extra to take the edge off the anxiety. Think the 10mg dose has helped with the low days but not the anxiety. Good to know they worked for you. Have you had any major side effects ?

Hi katie,

I only had side effects when I first started taking them but they passed quite quickly. I didnt notice any side effects when my dose was increased. Incidentally I also took betablockers (propanolol) along with the cipralex and found that really helped with the physical symptoms of anxiety.

Maybe you should speak to your GP again?

Having heard from a few people who have been on the tabs think that 20mg seems to be more effective than 10mg.

Will see him again this week and see if he will agree to upping the dose.

Im on citalopram and have been 9weeks.I have upped mine last week only by 5mg and im sure its making a differents.I upped them because i didnt think they were working that well.So i think that it may help.My doc told me 10mg was only a starting dose!xxx

THanks for that Bong. Perhaps I will go up to 15mg to start with and see if there is any difference rather than jump straight up to 20mg. x

Yes i think that would be better for you hun.Just cut your tablet!I would like to stay on as low dose if posssible for me,sounds like you are alittle like that as you were on 10mg for 8months.

I've been on 10mg for about the same length of time and find it great with a little diazepam now and then
