Black stool - food colouring?

Can food colouring cause black stools? I had my teeth done and for about 4 days after that I ate nothing but Chocolate Fortisip drinks - about 18 in total.

Help - panicing now!

Yes food coloring can effect the color of your stools, if all you where having is Fortisip then thats the reason, when you start to eat normaly everything will go back to normal.

I think if you read the label fortisip contains ferrous sulphate ie iron as its a fortified drink and iron turns your stools black.

yes it definatly can, i ate loads of strawberries once and mine was red! i paniced too but soon returned back to normal xx

And to add another color to the list, mine turned yellow for days after I ate yellow colored steamed buns. I panicked and got tested for all kinds of related diseases only to find out that I'm healthy...
