Employment Support Allowance. It's the new name for Incapacity Benefit.

To be honest even the physically disabled are having trouble because of the current government. I suffer from Arthritis and i fear they will take me off it soon.

Yes you can, but it depends on the under lying causes and how bad it is!

I am on it, im suffering from depression, im in CBT therapy and person centered therapy. Suppose its if its bad enough hun.

    Hope u get sorted

A lot of peeps dont seem to understand anxiety, depression, panic attacks.

Its not like having an illness where people send ya get well cards. Everyone avoids it and dont see the seriousness of it all......tend to get pushed to a side sometimes. i feel like it at times.
    Hope you get well soon

If it's bad enough to keep you from working, you can certainly put in a claim for it. It'll begin by sending in doctors notes in which you'll recieve the benefit for the time allotted by your doctor. After a while you'll need to go for a medical though and that's the hard part to get through! (because it seems that if you can touch your toes they think you're well enough to work!) I've been claiming but am currently at the stage where I'll need to go for a medical soon! =/

In a nutshell, your entitlement depends on whoever assesses your claim form!

If your illness (physical or mental) means you are absolutely unable to work, then yes, you are entitled to ESA.

Anyone saying anything different is uninformed (sorry but it's true).

You may need to jump through a few hoops along the way of claiming it, but some advice and support if you can get it make this easier.

    Couldn't agree more!

You ARE entitled to it if it's bad enough to stop you from working. You may have to jump through hoops to get but you shouldn't HAVE too. The way this government are treating genuinely ill people is an absolute disagrace!
