Don't believe everything you think.
Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.
This is what I used to do:
Warm bath with something to read like a magazine
A warm glass of milk and banana
Lay in bed and read a book and only fall asleep when your eyes cant stay open any more.
Remove anything that makes a noise, especially ticking clocks.
Hope it works.
I tried a early night a couple nights ago, had a shave/shower, hot drink, in bed nice and early. By midnight I was still wide awake!
I like to have the tv on (quiet) and set a timer, usually watching Family Guy and American Dad.
If I go to bed early I will fall asleep straight away but just wake up earlier.
Can't win either way !

I tend to find reading in bed helps me. It seems to help me concentrate on something else and it really helps if you can get into the story and visualise it as you are reading.
I also eat a banana before bed for the tryptophan.
Warm milk is supposed to be good for tryptophan as the warming up of milk helps release it further than if drank cold. The trouble can be drinking it too close and needing the toilet and I suppose it can be worse as you get older.
