    sore throat

Hi I'm new to the site. I've been googling symptoms for throat cancer and I can pretty much tick all the boxes. I have this white spot at the back of my throat on the right hand side near my tonsils - its been there for three weeks and has affected my ear and neck and I have felt generally unwell and feeble. I smoked for many years and successfully gave up after (three years of trying) in March of this year. I have anxiety and guilt issues around the smoking so to me every sore throat or cold is the start of some smoking related cancer. This time though I feel really scared. I have suffered panic attacks in the past, again over illness issues and now feel in an anxious and fearful state ever since seeing my doctor yesterday when she saw the lump. I have been prescribed antibiotics and told its too early to worry about anything and to come back next week. I am just so fed up with feeling poorly and fed up with feeling frightened and tense. I just want to try and get on with life feeling secure and unafraid. I feel such a fool trying to explain how I feel to people and my doctor. I am so glad I found this site. Thanks for reading this. Any advice welcome. Love Alison K

Hi Alison and welcome to the site.it does sound like tonsiliitis. You really shouldnt google.it will make you more anxious. There are so many illnesses with very similar symptoms.Take it from someone who knows.I used to look at medical books and this is where alot of my problems started from.

me again - really scared. THe white spot on the back of my thorat has not responded to anti biotics. My Doctor is aware of my health anxieties and is sending me to a specialist to "rule out cancer". She thinks it looks like a cyst and is propbably nothing to worry about but she says she has to do this because I have left her no choice because I am so anxious about it and my mind needs to be put at rest. The other symptoms I have with this "spot" are worrying me - I've been googling and I am so ridden with anxiety that I can't tell if what I'm feeling are real or imagined symptoms. I can't sleep tonight for worrying about everything and I just don't know how I am going to get to 5pm on Tuesday when my appointment is. Does my Doctor know more than she's letting on or is she really trying to put my mind at rest?. People keep telling me I look really poorly - hell I feel really poorly - and this is not helping. And now my partner has just told me that he will be out of the country for a week when this happens. I am so sacred and imagining the worst possible outcome. Anyone got any ideas on how i can through this? Thanks and love Alison
