    worried about schizophrenia

i get random thoughts popping up in my head, it's most noticable when im not focusing my mind on anything special, for example when im trying to sleep.

The thoughts can be either in my own voice, in a friend's voice, or even in a completly random voice.

Its most often very random stuffs that pops up, for example '' yes i will buy that shoe '' when im not thinking about anything related to shoes.

I read that schizophrenics have internal voices, which scares me alooot....
Im afraid im developing schizophrenia, that im in the ''prepsychosis phase''.

I've been to a psychologist who doesnt belivie im developing schizophrenia, but that still doesnt calm me down..

anyone who got any ideas about this case?
( im also 22 years old, which is a normal age for schizo :( )
sorry if my english is bad !

    Re: worried about schizophrenia

    Hi dondee,

A few months ago, at the peak of my anxiety, I was scared of schizofrenia too. It turned out it was just anxiety playing me. It's extremely common to fear mental disease or "losing your mind" when you are anxious.

Do I understand correctly that this voices appear when you are about to fall asleep? Sometimes I also hear random noises or voices before falling asleep. I researched it and it turns out that it's not as unusual as I initially thought. It has to do with brain functioning and sleep phases, and it's definately not related to mental illness.

Hi, it happens most often when im TRYING to sleep ( still fully awake), but can also happen during the day if im not stimulating my mind. its not really 'voices', more like thoughts i cant control!

People who are going "crazy" don't recognize it.

Sounds like a normal thing to me. And since the psychologist thinks the same I think you can relax about schizofrenia.

As part of my theraphy I had to once recprd a video of how I'd act if my fear of going mad comes true. It was an interesting thing to do, and suprisingly it helped me with the anxiety about my mental health.

I'm not a specialist, but you may have some intrusive random thoughts. This doesnt mean you are schizofrenic

I had a reaction to steroids while I was in treatment. I remember some of that time but I was in a steroid psychosis. I actually thought I could beat the poop out a guy the size of a NFL lineman! ~lol~ This guy walked out in front of my truck on the way back from treatment and I flipped out, pulled over and was going to go after him (I have a vague recollection but my wife told me). Fortunately, she was able to stop me. The next day when I went in for my treatment, she told the nurse what happened. Psych was up there STAT and I was taken off the steroids and given meds to bring me down.

Also, my wife suffered from a rare form of encephalitis last year, She has no recollection of anything but I can tell you flat out, she was totally and completely psychotic. So like I said, if you were truly going full blown schiz, you wouldn't know it. To you, everything would be normal. To everyone else? Strait jacket time. Even if you had a moment of clarity, it would soon be gone and lost to the psychosis.

As was said, it's could be intrusive thoughts which are pretty common with anxiety disorders. You're not the first one to post this fear and to my knowledge, none of the others ever went full blown psychosis.

Perhaps finding a therapist to help you would be prudent.
