    Hello everyone

    I assume I have GAD

It started with neck pain, which eventually turned into a dull headache, 24/7, and was worse in the morning. I also noticed that I got wound up for no reason. I would feel the muscles around my head tense up and a headache starting.

I went to the doctor and I was given valium to take for three nights only. I don't think it had any effect. I mentioned the headache to my ENT specialist and he suggested that I saw a neurologist, so I did, and after a few tests and an MRI he diagnosed anxiety.

He prescribed 10mg of Tryptizol at night, which helps but it isn't the cure. He also prescribed Escitalopram for the headache during the day. I took 5mg for two days, but I stopped taking it because the side effects were horrendous. I didn't notice any benefit from it.

I still have restless nights and the bad head has returned in the morning accompanied by head/ear pressure, tinnitus and a general feeling of doom and gloom. I truly believe that I would be fine if I could get rid of the headaches.

I tried acupuncture, I can't really say if it had any effect. I am now contemplating a psychologist. I would like to know if anyone has benefited from a psychologist?

    Thanks!

    Hello

I've been to CBT and luckily was able to have 6 sessions of counselling for free through my work. I definitely feel like the counsellor helped with my anxiety, it helped me get a lot off my chest which I have never really felt able to talk about with people. The CBT has been a bit hit and miss for me, there are certain parts of it I found useful (worry management, rationalising thoughts).

CBT is about the circle of how your thoughts, behaviour and physical sensations are interlinked. May be worth a try if you can find your local service.

    Hey John

    Welcome to the forum

Counseling therapy with a psychologist is actually more recommendable for me. It would be beneficial if you have this along with your medications. Therapy would help you cope with your GAD and it would work on changing your mindset on how you feel about certain situations that you feel anxious about. There are no harmful side-effects and it's a great way to vent out with someone who can professionally sympathize and provide advice. You should really consider this.

Thank you very much for your replies

I also think that it would help if someone would listen, sympathise and give honest advice.
I am fed up having ridiculous conversations with myself, which I think is the root of my problem.
I honestly believe that I have made the first step by sharing my problem and asking for advice here. I'm beginning to feel better already!

    Thank you for caring

    John
