HI
I was just reading deccas post about the DLA and felt I would give some advice and encouragement on this.

Most of us have come across the DLA form before and I would rather be dragged behind a run away horse across a field of broken glass than try to fill in one of these forms by myself. Yes filling in these forms is a painful process and you may be better picking up 10 of them because you would get so annoyed that you would rip the first 9 into tiny bits.

In relity most of the forms are for those with a physical issue and then they have a small bit for those with emotional issues, which goes to show what they think of emotional issues but I am not going to go on to that area or this will be more of a book than a post

1/Get expert advice when filling in the forms

2/Always keep a photocopy (not because you are telling lies but because we all forget due to medication stress etc)

The most important point to remember is that you put down your VERY WORST DAY when answering the questions

Example if your asked can you go out and you put down sometimes I can, then from that answer, they think that you can get about. You may have agoraphobia but, yes at times you can go out but mostly its with a trusted individual or a place you feel safe.

They ask how far can you walk...you may be able to walk 10 miles but thats on a good day but if your anxiety is too much it can be difficult to leave the house.

If I was asked the first two questions I would write

1/ No I cant go out because I feel (and then write down the worst day) dizzy frightened alone etc

2/ I cant walk far without feeling sick or dizzy and feel that I am about to fall over

This is not about cheating the DLA OR DHSS this is about getting that support to make life more comfortable for you and you family. We all know how expensive it is for a taxi and sometimes we just grab one to get us home quickly 10 mins later we are £8 down.

ALWAYS ALWAY ALWAYS WRITE DOWN YOUR WORST DAY WHEN FILLING IN THE FORMS!!!!! Each year there is millions of money unclaimed because people dont claim, people cant fill in the forms!!! But mostly because they make it so Dam difficult for us to fill in the forms.

One more point (bet you wish you had made a cup of tea before reading this post ) if you do get a knock back, dont give up most people on appeal do get the DLA.

Take care

xx
