    Re: Intrusive Thoughts POCD?

You have got nothing to be ashamed of, your getting the thoughts and panicky feeling because your mind hates it so much its thinking of the worst possible thing that could happen and the fear is feeding the thoughts if you can try to control the fear the thoughts will get less and less

Please don't beat yourseld up about this it is nothing to be ashamed of your not a bad person for having these thoughts its just because in your mind its the worst possible thing that could happen to you and from the your fearing the thoughts something that helps me is to laugh when you get one the more silly you make it the better because you will start to not have the fear of the thoughts coming

It's not the thoughts that are freaking me out, I don't even really struggle with them lately, it's the groinal responses. I've never had this before and it's scaring me so bad.

I know it’s bad, but I felt like I needed to punish myself so I took one of my razors and cut my arm. I’ve never self harmed before but I felt like I needed to punish myself.

I think you need to consult a doctor or therapist to get some support with your anxiety. Escalating into self harm is concerning.

As for the groinal responses, they happen. They are documented as occurring in sexually intrusive thought themes in OCD. They are confusing & unpleasant but they do not mean anything in terms of you being what you fear because there are more important criteria required to diagnose that and anyone can have a inappropriate response.

I suggest you re-engage with your therapist.

I just don't even have the intrusive thoughts anymore, I just see or think of a kid, and I start to have the response, it's really scaring me, and I'm so afraid it's never gonna go away. I tried to let it go, but yesterday I was just watching a show, and there was a kid, and I started to get the response.

Sorry your going through this, I think definitely go and see a doctor just to get some specialist advice don't be scared to tell the doctor what is happening because they would of dealt with something similar before. Please don't punish yourself your not a bad person the reason you are punishing yourself is because you know its wrong so you can see immedialtely that you are not that type of person or you wouldn't be feeling like that I really do hope you start to feel better soon

Do you mean you consciously think about a child and then the cycle starts?

As far as seeing a child and then feeling the groinal response, it's just a slight change in your OCD cycle. You may get the intrusive thought with the groinal response or perhaps you feel an urge with it? Regardless it's still about a fear that has become associated to certain things as it has grown.

Themes can change, triggers can change or be added. However, it's still part of the OCD cycle and changes nothing about the actual mental health disorder you have, it's not a change into the person you fear.

When you do this would you say it is a conscious act to test yourself to see how you react?
