    Propranolol - help needed, please!

I was prescribed Propranolol last week in an attempt to stop my severe and very frequent migraines.

the trouble is I'm a long -term anorexic, have a diagnosis of Borderline PErsonality disorder (I HATE that label!), self-harm issues and severe emetophobia.

The instruction for the Propranolol say the tablets have to be taken with meals - I don't really eat proper meals.......... who much food do you think they mean when they say 'meal'?

I'm alreadly feeling sick and am TERRIFIED of being sick - has sickness been a problem for anyone here?

I'm on 2 x 40mg - anyone had the same dose for migraines? Did it work?

I feel so tired and muzzy headed on the tablets - it's awful.

I'm terffied the migraines are something more serious.

Would really appreciate any comments - thanks guys!

    Hiya,
I have been taking those for a few Years now for anxiety reasons.

I just take them as and when I need to, not with food really, could be any time of the Day, never had any bad effects on me, I think they are really good tablets, dont be scared to take them, I was prescribed 2 a Day, my previous GP where I lived before precsribed me 3 a Day.

    Take Care,

Ellie, ive been on them in the past too and had one 80mg pill daily for 8 months and didnt always take them with food and was fine. I took them for migraine too. Don't worry you'll be fine.

Also I didn't even realise they prescribe them for Migraines, I knew they were for anxiety and heart problems.

Yes i was told that migraines are 'vascular' headaches and this involves the arteries that supply blood to the brain. Beta blockers relax the artery walls and helps the blood flow better without so much pressure. This is why they take the stress out of the pumping heart, and good for high blood pressure, and of course good for migraines. So there ya go!

Also when I have been sober I used them to help me "Try" to sleep, doctor said to do that to help with sleep, one doctor wouldnt give me sleeping tablets (hes ald git and not very understanding) but saw a young female doctor and she gave me half a dozen sleeping tablets.

In my experience of visiting GP's in the last few Years, their attitudes to these sort of problems can vary quite alot!

Once you find the good ones, you are on your way to recovery.

I usually get a lot of headaches and i'm not even on them for that, but they have stopped them i've noticed.

Also I find they work better after i've eaten either a meal or snack

Hiya, yes they definately helped with the headaches, havent really had another migraine since being on the beta blockers i must admit. And once again, please don't worry about taking them with meals. Alot of ppl havent noticed the difference whether with food or without. If some ppl prefer to take them with food thats ok for them, but you're coping with anorexia so please don't worry about taking them without food ok? it really wont hurt you if you don't.

    Best wishes
