    Hi

I had exactly the same when i dropped from 10mg to 5mg about 8 weeks ago. I checked with doctor and he said it was normal to feel like this and that it would pass. it did after bout a week.

I have the problem now, only its going from 5mg back to 10mg. i honestly didnt think that a 5mg would make any difference.

Mornin' Two Heads (or should that be "morning", "morning"?!),

I can't comment on reducing the dosage but I've gone from an initial 10mg to my current 40mg of Citalopram over the course of about 18 months and consider myself to be back to my old self now, I'm reluctant to use the word 'cured' as I'm still taking 40mg a day! However, when I increased the dosages I did so gradually and found that alternating, e.g. 30mg one day and 40mg the next, worked for me.

So, perhaps the reverse might work for you? Discuss with your GP taking 10mg one day and 5mg the next for a period of, say, a month, before reverting to 5mg a day? It might be all you need to get the desired effect without feeling so bad?

    Re: Coming off citalopram!!

I was on 40mg for 18 months and they did the trick, I felt better, stopped being depressed and anxious and got my life back. 6 months ago I decided I wanted to start coming off so I began weaning myself off them. I went from 40 to 30 for 2 months (went fine) then I went from 30 to 20 for 2 months (fine). A month ago I went 20 to 10 and I'm fine (got a little dizzy for a couple of days but no big deal) I feel really great and my normal self. I plan to continue to decrease after Christmas (either 5mg per day or 10mg every other day - haven't decided yet)

Although I'm not off them completely I would thoroughly recommend going super slow like I did. I thought, hey I'm in no rush and I definitely don't want to relapse so why not just take my good old time?

The other good thing is it's really good for your confidence, I'm proud of myself and have a real sense of accomplishment.

So I say: go slow, have patience and be gentle with yourself.
