Throat tightness/Lump in throat feeling caused by anxiety?

I'm having this as well. I am having trouble eating because it seems swollen or tight in my throat, with a lot of mucus and the roof of my mouth seems strained, swollen and I'm burping a lot after eating or drinking. I had a bad time last night eating a hot dog. I have been very stressed out lately due to HA and some family medical problems and I had to get off the depression medicine the doctor gave me because it was making me too groggy to work. I do concentrate on the problem when I'm eating and I wonder if that is what is causing it as a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. All I know is it's making it very difficult to eat anything and my appetite has gone to hell because I'm almost afraid to eat. Doctor said he thinks it's post nasal drip and sinuses and gave me medicine for that after examining my throat. My HA screamed ALS, but he said that my muscle function was fine. He didn't seem to think that an ENT visit was necessary, but if this keeps up, I might ask him to do that just for peace of mind if nothing else.

This all sounds very familiar and the excess mucus is a real nuisance (have had this on and off for 25+ years but it's not post-nasal drip). The burping is constant also.

I've largely stopped worrying about things as I can swallow ok and this is not getting worse. The throat lump is cricopharyngeal spasms, which actually feel better while eating.

Thanks for the reply Wild Monkey and the perspective. I don't know what an ENT would find with me, but I'd go do whatever test they want me to do to find out how to fix this as it's really messing with me both mentally and physically. I'm trying to follow my own advice and keep the HA in check, but it's proving quite difficult.

Hi,

Not to blow my own trumpet, but my throat/esophageal issues are clearing so it looks like I've been in a CFS autoimmune flare (about two & a half months is about right)!!

I haven't had the 2 issues together before but that's what's happened this time. It started to come right yesterday afternoon, I even had half a glass of wine with dinner. So I'm really pleased as I wont need to see the ENT specialist

Every now and then the CFS picks an area of my body to put into hyperactivity, which produces some uncomfortable symptoms. They are cyclic but the good news is that they don't leave any damage to the body, it just messes with the HA mind
