Not getting a certain amount of replies?

I just wrote a question on here a few days ago. It only got one response. It didn't really help with my issue. It was posted in the OCD forum. I am feeling unhappy about it.

Are there reasons why certain posts get less attention? Are there certain reasons why certain posts get left unanswered? Is there anything that I can do to ensure that I get more responses in the future?

Looking at your thread history since you first joined, it could be because you never respond to anybody who replies to you. Other people don't like to be ignored either remember, so it works both ways. If you can't bring yourself to pop back onto your threads and thank somebody for taking the time to reply...even if it's only one or two replies then people will stop posting. Just a thought.

It could also be that not many people can relate to your symptoms though.

Unfortunately sometimes we may have a certain issue that not many people know much about, I do try my hardest to reply to everyone so they all get peace of mind but sometimes i just don't quite know what to say x

    All the best

I think it's more likely because the OCD board is largely dead on NMP. Most replying has been falling to a small number of people for a while. Anyway, LJ has been posting on the threads of others and recently they are the ones not replying to acknowledge.

I have no interest in vetting whether people reply otherwise I would be ignoring a fair few. I can understand that some prefer to help those who give back more, which is understandable. The more you get involved with others, the more they look out for each other.

Unless it's HA Symptoms or GAD...replies will be slow & limited on a forum that is mostly for HAers. Been like that the whole time I've been here.

OP - I know the thread, it's less mainstream. The OCD board is virtually all about intrusive thoughts. Many of my OCD themes never come up either.

Anxiety and depression also have intrusive thoughts. Ljj I noticed that you are from the states as I am. You must remember this forum is not on the same time schedule as we are. (I'm from the states as well) There is about a 4 to 5 hour difference. So you need to post when they are awake over there and we are sleeping! Keep posting, maybe in a different thread?

I too have noticed this and for a newbie it can be a bit disheartening if you don't get a reply sure help each other but if you are brand new it's difficult in some ways, Just don't take it personally though Cheers

Terry, my point was more about not thanking people who have responded to the OP, rather than the amount of replies on each thread. The thread history I referred to goes back to the join date which is over a few years, so it's not as if there were lots of threads to cope with at any one time.

I just pointed out that besides the fact that it's a 'specialist issue' for want of a better description, and may not relate to many other sufferers, people generally don't like to be ignored if they take the time and trouble to reply. You have your opinion about it and I have mine. I don't think my take on it is wrong, it's just different from yours is all.

I agree with you mostly. But the OCD board is dead in the water. Getting 2-3 replies is good going. Unless it's intrusive thoughts, the Pure O end, then you're pretty much out of luck around here.

It's been like that for years from what I've seen. Even with the influx from AZ, it's mostly HA. Most of the OCD seems to be HA for some reason so ends up on there.

Some of the past OCD commenters are moving on, some new have joined but it's like Dave says, nothing to take to heart, It's mostly about lack of numbers and content.

If OCDers want lots of response, they really need an OCD forum like OCD UK.

Actually there are soo many health anxiety posts here the forum's name should be HA. I'm glad I don't have health worries and I truly feel for these people. I noticed that they insist on posting their symptoms and we are not doctors. We can only provide support. I understand that the health care in the UK is different then the US. Does it take a long time to see a physician? Is that why there are so many posts about health?

Re: Not getting a certain amount of replies?

Snowghost, it doesn't take long to see your family doctor in the UK, but if we're referred on to see a specialist in hospital that can take a while. How long we wait depends on how urgently we need to be seen and surgery is prioritised. The exception is cancer. If this is suspected then we are fast-tracked.

And yes, alot of people post threads asking us if we think they have heart disease, brain tumours or cancer, or share a photo of a mark on their skin and ask us what it is. There are, and have been in the past, members with medical backgrounds but they are here as anxiety sufferes too not as practitioners. Also...and with the greatest respect, how do we know people are who they say they are?

None of us are here to diagnose, only to offer support. We do try to explain this but it falls on deaf ears unfortunately
