    Positive CBT comments

    Hi all,

I started CBT on Tuesday and I am determined to get better and make this work. I've seen a few post sayings CBT didn't work but is there anyone out there that has had positive CBT experiences and felt it improved or even made them feel almost normal again?

    Thanks x

Yes I did a trial online CBT course with a University recently.

Because it was a trial they couldn't select which was the correct exercises for me, but out of the four they tested on me two really made sense and helped me a lot.

I believe you need to make an effort and persevere with the exercises but they work because of this.
So much different to just mindlessly taking medication. You now have to really think about what you're going through and you are completely in control and responsible for your recovery.

    Good luck.

    Re: Positive CBT comments

I used CBT4PANIC that was here along with one on one therapy for some depression and "scanxiety" after my illnesses. I found it very straightforward and logical. It just made sense to me. While not all aspects applied to me, there were several aspects that did and I still find them useful to this day for every day stressful life situations (work, relationships etc.).

The key point though is work. It takes a concerted effort and it takes practice. I equate it to going to the gym. It takes a while to get acclimated and then you have to continue to make the effort or you can lose the progress you've made. In many ways it's a mental lifestyle change if that makes sense.

Granted it doesn't work for everyone and sometimes meds are needed to help get your head in the right place to make the effort that's needed but it works for many and is a standard method to deal with anxiety and depression issues. My therapist was all for it when I brought it up.

    Re: Positive CBT comments

I'm half way through my CBT and i go once a week, i feel like it's helping me but it's more about the amount i put in, as some weeks i've just been really off and 'not bothered' to keep up with the techniques I've learnt. All the modules up to now have been very relevant to me and i can relate to it all, learning the cycles of thoughts feelings and behaviors, and how to spot and challenge thoughts is helpful.
My next session is tomorrow and it is 'managing worry' session, a biggy for me x
